Thank you everyone who attended and those wanting to attend future events ..your feedback and support is appreciated..
With that in mind the next Event will be Round 5 v Cowboys at the Sackville Hotel...this will be a Wests Tigers promotion more details to follow.
We are in the planning stages for Ambush events for Round 6 v South Sydney at Wests Ashfield and Round 9 v Gold Coast at Wests Campbelltown..
Is this going to be an EVERY round kind of thing? Not my place to make suggestions but I would think that home games will be difficult because of numbers going to the games and fatigue setting in for EVERY week, particularly if the club are interacting?.
Perhaps all away games might be suggestion?
No it wont be an every Round thing..It really is dependant on the Draw..and where they are playing and times they are playing
We want to hold events at venues close to our home grounds ..the idea is also to make Wests Ashfield the home of the Wests Tigers Away Game..
It just so happens that Round 5 is a Leichhardt game and Wests Tigers are partnering with the Sackville Hotel so are running an Event..they then don't get another home game until Round 13 which is also Origin week..
Round 6 is an away game v Souths at 5:30 on a Saturday night which we feel is a good timeslot..
Round 9 is a Campbelltown home game also at the 5:30 Saturday timeslot ...Campbelltown don't get another home game until Round 25..
So we feel the 5:30 timeslot on a Saturday for a home game is doable especially given the venue is so close to the ground..
The Club is very supportive of our initiative
Like I said, excellent work and thanks for the explanation.
All suggestions are welcome..
If it builds the momentum like we hope then the events will build themselves and like minded people will get together to support the Wests Tigers regardless..
I have to say GEO,when I organised the very first WTF get together I was happy to do the work.I tried to get the club to have someone come and do a Q&A and all I got was rejection after rejection...You even told me not to mention the WTs forum just say we are a group of members getting together...
Now the club WANTS to reach out to the members and community and raise profile and money, they are bending backwards to help...
A nice kick in the guts for me when all I wanted was people to meet and greet each other in a common love of the club and rugby league...
Mate, don't take it as a kick in the guts, it really was just a matter of timing, luck and circumstance. We are coming at this from the same position as you in trying to build that community. I know a lot of people appreciated the effort and work that you put in.
I think also, the club is in a different place now compared to a few years ago. When the club started turning a profit they could re-invest the money into staff and club capabilities, which they simply may not have been able to support in previous years.
Like the forwards in a game, the club needs the stable platform - finances, management, sponsorship, coach - before they can try the fancy stuff out wide.
You don't need money to allow injured players attend a fan event in the leagues club next door to the ground.
No, but you need club staff that have time and ability to vet and then support such an event.
Tigers didn't send along Walters and Blore because we asked nicely, they sent those players after we had 6 months of meetings, proposals and follow-ups with them. Shawn Blore was confirmed available about 5 days before the event.
6 months of meetings to allow a player meet some fans. No time wasting there Wests.
You know that is not the case ..the player/s are the final piece in the planning of an event subject to availability..it is actually easier to get access to a player for an away game than a home game where the expectation is the player injured or reserve attend the home game with the team..
Fully understand what you are saying GEO,however when I requested someone who was injured or not required to play,I asked for 20/30 min Q&A at lunchtime about 12.30 pm..the main game wasnt on until about 3 pm...and that was at Campbo Leagues, they played at CSS next door...surely a quick hello and thanks for your support shouldnt have been so much trouble....
Well all I can say is you can't change the past..there has also been personnel changes in various departments within the Wests Tigers that realise fan engagement is an important part of growing the Wests Tigers brand..rather than look at it as a personal slight against you ..think of it as a positive need for change..which is what we all want..
Hopefully you can come to the next on at CSS..
