I’m getting a strong feeling there’s a link between the NRL O’Farrell, player agents (eg Moses) , jarome Luai to PNG and management of Federal Gov contracts - like when Chammas was at the Luai png signing it wasn’t a coincidence - the NRL can preframe the positive narrative before some private IG reel leak . Its the same institutional logic whether in business, trade, sport etc - the NRL is a product of stakeholder relationships .

If the NRL can move players , why can’t they move staff between clubs? Providing oversight, like any institution they have priorities for their interests not the clubs.

It explains why a draft would be detrimental to the NRLs product and autonomy when now it can move its assets to teams where it promotes the product the most eg Vegas and Roosters etc.

Look how terribly the Bears have been managed…does the NRL have a $600m contract in Perth with the federal govt of Aus and diplomatic geopolitical relations to manage in Perth? Why not ship Nathan Cleary to the bears?

Agreed the NRL do not care - especially about the tigers.

In business terms the NRL demonstrated that clearly with the first Las Vegas year and the teams the NRL showcased first.

That's compounded, with the NRL scheduling too - tigers round 1 bye twice in 2-3 years and the titans getting the other opening round bye is not a coincidence. As a business you put your best products out on opening day.

That's why @diedpretty I asked:

1. what conditions created this messy business structure (lack of clear defined goals of the business), - where the administration continues to ignore the club ( then intervening when O'Farrell was fired - that tells you the NRL intervene in some circumstances - then we need to ask : How does O'Farrell's (Wests Tigers) firing affect the NRL?

2. that leads to Q2, what standard is acceptable before institutions intervene?
How much damage to their product is acceptable before intervention?

I think the NRL needed to hire an independent dude/ consultant to oversee the merger. The NRL didn't.

The above arguments of local ground win rates, locations, populations and pokies and which board sits where are all downstream problems of where the real issue/power rests - the NRL itself (the administrators) are the problem.

I understand where you are coming from but i hardly think the NRL brand has been damaged in any way by WT and HBG. In fact despite the farce that HBG are the NRL.s commercial success just keeps getting bigger.

I agree, the NRL brand isn’t damaged, the NRL is doing quite well and that’s the problem. You’re supporting my argument.

The real locus of power / real problem sit with the NRL administrators.

The clubs issues (Tigers, HBG, local boards, win rates, pokies, etc.) is downstream effects of a system issue.

The NRL intervenes when its interests are touched (O’Farrell) and otherwise tolerates ongoing dysfunction at the club because that dysfunction does not threaten the central product or commercial trajectory…

Like selling both normal lemonade and vanilla lemonade (wests tigers ) flavors at a lemonade stand - the vanilla flavor (tigers) never sells but hey “who gaf”? Your normal lemonade is selling! 💰💰💰💸💸

With this reply you’ve reframed my argument from the NRL player transfer system is “an informal institutional player system” to “the nrl can respawn any player any where “ (absolutism argument, that’s often the rebuttal to my points).

I never claimed the NRL can issue directives and move players like ordering a 6 pack of nuggets with sweet and sour sauce at a drive through at Stanmore Maccas at 3am, but the structural system , we can all see! Has soft levers for player movements & relationship pathways that shape where high value players end up which best support the institution.

It’s not controversial at all. Like if I had a lemonade stand I’d move it to where I optimize sales right?

On WA you’re using absolutism/ extreme logic again. My point was the PNG team already involved millions in Givt contracts. Tax arrangements and nrl strategy with incentives to ensure it is a success. To think otherwise would be naive…

On Chammas, thanks 🙏 for raising his role in PNG team, my question to you is, “why Chammas?” And “who made the appointment of Chammas?”

Have a good look how they are developing their junior clubs, would love to seen them field a ball side next season, then a flegg side they year after, same process Melbourne Storm have done. They have the money clout behind them but they have some very good league people in place to develop the game in WA yes they get floggings next year.

Melbourne isn’t a 4-5 hour flight with a 3 hour time difference.

What’s the point of juniors in Perth, if the competition hasn’t adjusted to Perth logistics?

The market needs to adjust to the team to. The NRL doesn’t even do it for the Warriors, why would they do it for Perth? Look at Covid, scheduling for the warriors etc,

Perth and NZ don’t have a multi million dollar contract at stake like PNG that’s the core difference my man
