The clean out

Get rid of Payten and Galea as well, and sign Burgess and Scott. Fowards would be better than most then.

With the young guys for back up and competition it'd be an intimidating pack.

8\. Burgess
9\. Farah
10\. Galloway
11\. Ellis
12\. Heighington
13\. Fulton

14\. Gibbs
15\. Laurie
16\. Scott
17\. Young guy

With the money left over ( ) I'd chase for Michael Mongahan, and Vuna/Daniella would be nice too.

Don't mean to be picky, but Matthew Scott is starting for QLD this weekend and IMO has been the form front rower of the NRL this season, can't see him leaving the Cowboys to play off the bench.

Whats Galea done wrong ? If I had a choice between him and Fulton I would keep Galea, would like to see him given more opportunity.

Yeah my bad about Scott. Swap him and Burgess… might see if we can squeeze Greg Inglis in there as the 'young guy' as well.

On Galea... I dunno. He seems willing, and great in defence, but the bloke is non-existant in attack. I can't remember a game where he has made more than 6 hit ups? Even with decent game time.

There is a general lack of disclosure from the WT on issues relating to players salaries and the cap which makes judgement difficult. Me thinks the 'cleanout' has been made difficult by the sheer size of the salaries we are paying some of the underperformers that no other club will touch, explaining in part why Bronson has departed whilst nuffies like Payne / Ryan and Morris survived. Going forward I only hope for more accountability from those responsible for past mistakes (Sheensy / Macca we're all looking at you :sunglasses: ), and of course 2 x big metre eaters upfront to help KG out with the important stuff

Instead of taking chances on injury prone wingers such as Tupou and throwing money around on fringe players such as Mitch Brown etc I would much rather us just survive with what we have until after 2010 and then make a big bid for a genuine star half & forward in 2011.

Suffer for one more season with a limited squad and then throw the chequebook on the table I reckon, like the Doggies did this season.

We could afford to make 2 marquee signings in key positions we need, such as a Cronk & Kite combo or a Soward & Hannant combo (for example only).

Im with you Zai, I dont want the club to waste money to try and grab any halfback for now, we need a decent one.

Go contest McDonnell for his job hahaha.

But then again, next year will be just as frustrating if it's another "building for the future" type year. We've been fed that since 06 when Prince and Laffranchi left. Sick of hearing the word future. I think most Tigers fans are wanting results now. Frustrating thing is there are no decent halves on the market. IMO Orford is just as inconsistent as Benji. We need a consistent organiser in the Monaghan or Kimmorley mould.

Looking at some tough times ahead :frowning:

Yeah its tough times indeed :frowning:

I think we would struggle to attract a big name player by themselves, we would have a better chance if we had the cap space to make a play for 2 big marquee signings at once, that way we can use them as bargaining chips to attract each other… Thats what the Dogs did to some degree, the likes of Hannant were more confident in signing with them because he knew Kimmorley was going there as well, it can make a massive difference.

Save big then buy big I reckon. I could handle ONE more season of pain if it meant this happening... I won't hold my breath though!

The Bulldogs recruited plenty of rep players - Kimmorley, Hannant, Eastwood & Stagg after getting the wooden spoon in 08 and years of horrible publicity. I see no reason why we shouldnt be able to attract marquee players as well, considering we have the Australian coach, the real NSW hooker, the NZ Captain & the world's greatest backrower. We're not short of big name players, I just don't get it :frowning:

Well we've gotten rid of Morris who was apparently on decent money and now Collis to free up maybe $150-200,000 and Tagive who might add another $50-100,000 to our kitty, all up it's over $500,000 so no reason we shouldn't be able to chase 2 decent signatures. And with Payne yet to be re-signed who was also spoken of being on a good deal I hope we use the extra cash to buy new players and not top up the contracts of under performers.

Money talks alex. And Wests don't have much by the looks of things….That's the difference.

I totally agree with that comment - and this clean out will help bring some money to the table.

we all were hoping for a clean out.
its now started, and will be interesting to see who still gets swept out.
if wests-tigers are not going to re-new contract of some players currently there, let them know.
so both wests-tigers and players involved can organise things for season 2010.

Although I agree its the cleanout we had to have I do find it strange that Sheens has always said experience was what were lacking and a player isnt worth his salt till he had racked up 100 fg games, and thats what we are flicking experienced Fgraders. Anyway lets see what we replace them with before we start jumping up and down

Except for Morris they were not experienced first graders. Collis was not even a first grader if you ask me. Has done nothing for years. No loss at all.

Someone on the old forum made a post about the clean out, listed a number of players contracts who were up and those that we have let go to other clubs saying the clean out is happening. I was hoping they could repost it here. Or that one of the Administrators could copy it to this thread.

Just because many people seem to be missing this fact that when you loose a player from your top 25 you have to replace them - even if it is an internal promotion what this does mean is that when a player of 50k and match payments (Tagive) leaves u do not gain any cap space for a big name player as the minimum contract in the top 25 is 50k plus match payments - we do not have an extra 50k because tagive left other then to the bl;oke who is replacing him at position 24 or 25 where he would have been

I'll be happy if we get rid of three (3) more players. and soon, otherwise how can we afford ross, finch and inu.

I hope you are joking about Finch, he's not what the Tigers need. Inu would be handy but too expensive, even offloading another couple of players, I don't think we'll shell out $300k for an outside back.

Cleanout was overdue, but at this stage weve only signed a winger with a dodgy knee who hasnt played in some time & has probably lost his speed & struggle to play that position again(reflected by $500 sign on fee),an unproven five-eigth with an ongoing alcohol behaviour problem,& a centre/winger who has defensive problems & cant make the panthers run-on side.
Not convinced were moving forward with any sort of plan..?

we'll need his experience in the halves in the semi's next year.
