Yeah just because you won yesterday ….....

Well there is that! When you wait close to 20 years between wins you need to enjoy the moment!!

How couldn't anyone be on Maykebediva for the last 2 cups in the trilogy of cup wins

Too Right, It's not easy picking the MC winner let alone getting a good price winner at that.

I think some of the International horses will be set for the Cox Plate next year instead of the Caufield Cup because the winner of the CP doesn't receive a weight penalty for winning.

I could never bring myself to climb on that bandwagon… The OTT comments about her, including by her trainer who should know better, just rubbed me the wrong way. Besides she had a stack of weight 3rd time around.

I just learnt something I didn't know about Makybe Diva

She is actually inbred

She has both Northern Dancer on both its Sire and Dames side

Cox Plate is a tough race though and international horses have a bad record. Your chances of winning the CP without being set specifically for it are fairly low and the overseas brigade don't have the quick sprint you really need for it. Also European trainers don't like having two runs that close together - it's only what 10 days from the Cox to the Cup?

Plus you run the risk of bottoming out if they go too hard and the tight track is a bigger risk for falls.

That's not unusual in horse racing. I'm sure there is some term for it… Linebreeding?

Where did the closest Australian bred horse finish in yesterday's cup? I think 15th in a field of 24\. It says something about the current quality of Australian bred stayers. Let's hope Australian breeders and owners forget about the riches of the Golden Slipper and concentrate a little more on breeding and buying quality Aussie bred stayers otherwise the Melbourne Cup will follow the same path as the British Tennis Open (Wimbledon) with, prior to this year no British player winning it for nearly 70 years.

This is a very common breeding method in racehorses and greyhounds.

Well ironically enough this mad scramble to buy entires to race in the cup may provide for some decent Australian bred stayers in years to come! You'd think at least some of them will stay here after racing.

Valid points Yoss, you certainly know your racing & were on the money with the CC & MC winner's. I was just thinking that they may target the CP instead after hearing that no horse has carried 59? kilos to victory in forty years & that's the only race i know of, that if you win it you don't receive a penalty for the cup.

All WFA ages are exempt from penalties which is why the serious contenders go around in the McKinnon on the Saturday rather than that 2500m race (is it the Lexus these days?). You can only get a penalty for winning a handicap. You're spot on though that if you've got a MC start lined up and want to avoid penalties, those WFA races are the way to go. You used to see horses like Saintly tread a path from the Turnbull into the Cox Plate and then the McKinnon.

Saw an interesting story on horse training breeding in england and france….newmarket....basically they just run straight for miles and liles....they have areas of pristine forest and lush greens the size of sydney municipalitys to let their horse go for it....they just run and run and run and its more a case quality rather than quality....they train for hours on end....here its usually a 20 min run all up

Backed Green Moon in the end but just a wuss bet and without any confidence. I've got doubts he'll get the trip but then again I've been far more confident in years gone by and got stuff all so who knows. I think the other Waterhouse horse (Fierente?) is a mystery runner and My Quest for Peace is good value.

Mrs Yoss who normally is much better than me in picking the winner has Cavalryman but she was working last night and therefore hasn't put much thought into it.

Well done mate

Well done Yoss I was on Green Moon also ….... two weeks ago :brick:

And then bring up Jeune Bloody mongrel thing Only decent race it ever run and I had Oompala paying 66-1 Balciano at 16-1 and 4th horse was around 16-1 also

5 year old daughter picked the thing that ran second and got 62.00 for a $5 investment

**Stuff it ,I'm winning lotto anyway and you'll know if I have as mysterious benefactor will be paying Sheens out on tomorrows news**

LOL I'll be 😛ray: to make sure you win it Happy.

I won big on the Cup - didn't bet a cent! Best thing I never did - cause I certainly wouldn't have picked any of those 3!

Flip only won 34 dollars Do you think that Sheens will accept an IOU for the other $899966

I'm not backing her but I like Dear Demi in the VRC Oaks this arvo, she's had excuses in her last two races & with a bit of luck I think she'll win.

She's probably the class horse of the field and usually class trumps staying ability in the Oaks. Plus she beat Zydeco at Flemington when they last met. She probably deserves to win a race like this.

 Funny thing is Yoss i was pretty confident that she'd win too but ever since i found out we were having a new addition to the family about four years ago i stopped punting except to have a boxed trifecta in the Cup. I didn't even have a bet in the Cup last year and this carnival is the first I've followed and had a few bets since the birth.

The bookies have definitely come out on top this carnival with not many favourites getting up.
