Ennis calls short Origin turnaround dangerous

MASTER sledger Michael Ennis had only nice things to say about his Queensland accusers after being cleared of stomping in Origin I.
But the NSW hooker was brutally forthright about the toll on representative players after backing up 48 hours from the Origin opener in the Bulldogs' 28-6 NRL win over Gold Coast on Friday night.
Ennis ''The Menace'' said representative matches should be played as stand-alone games on weekends.

''It has come to that time - it is just dangerous in the end,'' he said. ''Origin is so intense and then to turn around and back up 48 hours later - it is very difficult.''
He did his best choir-boy impersonation when asked about the accusation he stomped Queensland utility Cooper Cronk on Wednesday night. The match review committee's decision not to take action over the incident reportedly angered the Queensland camp, further stoking the fire for Origin II in Sydney on June 15.
Ennis would not bite when asked about the matter after the Bulldogs snapped a three-game losing run with a four-tries-to-one victory at Suncorp Stadium.
''I actually haven't seen the incident [but] a lot goes on around the ruck with legs and feet everywhere,'' he said. ''I have moved on from that. Origin is done and dusted.
''It was a good game of footy - fingers crossed I get another game and we can turn things around.''
Ennis already has enough to worry about. He was placed on report for a high shot on Titans captain Scott Prince in the 26th minute.
''I certainly pulled out of it,'' Ennis said of the tackle. ''Fingers crossed they see it that way. There was no malice in it.''
Bulldogs coach Kevin Moore was blunter. ''Princey wrong-footed him and Mick realised he was in a dangerous position and he pulled out - it was nothing more than a slap in the face,'' Moore said. ''It was some pretty good acting from Princey.''
Of more concern was Bulldogs No.7 Trent Hodkinson's situation. He was placed on report for a 19th-minute high shot on Steve Michaels. Hodkinson felled him with a legitimate bell ringer but, with Michaels on the deck, then appeared to plough his shoulder into his head.
''It was a bit careless but I don't think there was any malice in it,'' Moore said. ''Hopefully we get some good news.''
While Ennis was concerned for the welfare of representative players, the Bulldogs rake showed no signs of slowing down on Friday night. He topped the tackle count with 45 and was tireless in an 80-minute effort.
''He was outstanding,'' Moore said. ''I wanted to give Mick a spell at the end of the game but we didn't have any fit blokes left on the bench.''

You did see on the weekend when Farah made a linebreak that led to a try right? That's one more linebreak than Mr "Made for Origin" has made all year. It's a lack of attacking options that is costing NSW every year.

I posted the following on the Talkin' Sport forum about ninety minutes ago, under the thread title "NSW's protected species, Michael Ennis", and no one has replied to it. Could it be the posters there are as brainwashed as the media?
Did you know that since Ennis was first picked in the Origin team, he's the only player to have played for NSW in each of the last five Origin games? NSW are 1-4 in those games. Yes, some players, such as Gidley, have missed out on being in all five games due to injury, but it's inexplicable that this grub has managed to retain his spot in the team. Someone please tell me exactly what he brings to the table? Niggle? Last time I checked, that hasn't led to much success for NSW.
He definitely doesn't run the ball, as he only made ONE run during Origin 1 for a grand total of four metres. Lots of commentators have spoken of how Cam Smith was able to run the ball so freely in Origin 1, which was a major contribution to their success. Ennis is incapable of this. Cam Smith actually said leading into Origin 1 that he hoped NSW didn't pick Robbie Farah. Anyone remember that? Before I go further, I'll say that I'm a Tigers fan. On his current form Robbie Farah probably isn't deserving of an Origin spot, but the thing that really annoys me is that he was clearly the best hooker in NSW from '06 through '08, but had to bide his time as Buderus was in the team. He was then given only two games in '09 and cast aside, while Ennis has now been given five chances and will be picked again, without a doubt, for game 2.
If anyone remembers, Robbie was having a blinder early in Origin 1 of '09 before the Jarryd Hayne sideline incident swung the momentum to Queensland. He then played with an injury in game 2 and didn't have the best night. But since then, NSW are 1-4, with that one win being the dead rubber in '09\. Really, they could not have done much worse if Robbie had been retained. I've seen it mentioned that maybe Gidley should be made NSW hooker. At this point I'd prefer him over Ennis. At least Gidley can make some metres out of dummy half.
