The Great Hamburger Debate..

Beetroot, egg and bacon but no pineapple. Pauls Famous Hamburgers in Sylvania are the best if you like an old school burger

Im an old fashioned guy when it comes to hamburgers, much like Spud described.
My only stipulation is that my hamburger technician be a wog. They have the best understanding of how to prepare them. Theres a cafe up here that is superb…old school Greek family run, very grumpy - almost rude to the customer, the guy on the grill sometimes has a durrie hanging out his gob and would be 70 in the shade. You get what you are given, theres none of this "make your own" time wasting crap. You walk in and say 1 hamburger please and 5 minutes later you walk out. No need for any other words lol...

An old mate of mine back in seventies called his hamburger joint guy at Granville a western oriented gentleman and it was on. I don't think he ever got his hamburger but a knuckle sandwich.

Best Burger; regular toasted bun, bit off butter, lettuce, tomato, beetroot, meat (beef, lamb or pork) paddy, fried onions, BBQ sauce, wrapped in paper. Small chips with vinegar and 4 scallops with tomato sauce - can of coke or bunny ginger ale to wash it down.

Any Greek take away shop!

Best Kebab; Victoria Yeeros, Marrickville (full stop). The lamb, beef mince the sprinkle spice they add and don't forget "get tzatziki with it".

You guys have not mentioned the open hamburger with chips - I thought spud murphy would be into them

Didn't mind the odd open burger, but preferred to eat them with my hands altogether wrapped in paper. Chips are always a good accompaniment though

Thanks for that stryker. I'll have a look for it next time I'm there.

Can't cop it when they just whack a slice of cheese on top when they put it together….. It has to be melted, meat patties with fried onions on top of it with the cheese atop both while still cooking.. Then egg.
Salad below

Petersham Frangos mmmmm

Bun
Chilli
Mayo
Chicken
Lettuce
Tomato
Bun

Mmmmmm

Mcdonalds I would go McChicken…

Not a fan of cheese on burgers, nor beetroot.

Interesting there is so many different tastes on here! As for me, I like a simple old fashioned type of hamburger with a normal soft seeded bun (none of those hard crusty ones they serve up at trendy cafes), real beef, lettuce, tomato, beetroot (a must have) and fried onions (not raw) topped with BBQ sauce - perhaps with an egg if I'm in the mood, but no cheese or bacon thanks.

When I was a kid a Greek family used to own a take away on Liverpool Rd at Enfield - they made the best burgers and they were only 27 cents! Also, had some good burgers, when I was a bit older, down at the chew & spew on the Princes Hwy Wandandian, but I guess at 2am after a night out at the Bomaderry RSL anything tasted good  These days there is a great take away at Toukley on the Central Coast called K-Cees (I think) and they still make them just the way I like em

I'm wondering if your Enfield shop was the same one I went to. It was about two shops down from the corner of Liverpool and Burwood Rds, directly opposite the Royal Sheaf hotel on the same side of the road as St Josephs Catholic Church. The owner from the 60s to the early 70s was a guy named John and they were great hamburgers. The other good place was at Canterbury just opposite the railway station. My mates and I used to go there after a Saturday night skinful at the Millers Brighton. They were strange nights combining the worst beer ever brewed (Millers) and the best burgers.

I used to drink Millers beer at the Oak Flats hotel.People always used to say it was an acquired taste but i never learned to like it.It was a decent place to pick up girls though because most blokes avoided it because of the beer

No it wasn't coivtny, but I definitely remember the one you're talking about! I spent quite a bit of time in there as well, before and after visits to the Sheaf when I was a tad older  The one I'm talking about was further along LIverpool Rd heading towards South Strathfield - it was in a bunch of shops in the block just before the library, if that rings any bells? It was so long ago now, so I have no idea what it was called, I just remember the Greek family who owned it and how good their hamburgers were. I went to St Joeys as a young un, by the way
