The lifting rule

Back in 2006 after a game with the WT's and the Warriors when Daniel Fitzhenry was carried back into the in goal and either broke or dislocated his shoulder they brought in a rule saying that the moment a player was lifted from the ground the refs would have to instantly call "held "

Was has happened to that rule ??

The Dogs were physically lifting JAC ,Rankin ,Naiqama in tackles near the try line but no held calls

I'm not bagging Klein on this as it seems to have re entered the game and Qld even did it to Moylan in both Game 1 and 2

If we bring rules into the game to protect players let bloody enforce them

It was so frustrating watching them being lifted and the ref not blowing his whistle Happy. The lifting rule must be enforced consistently. Player safety is of the upmost importance.

Were we lifted… Or just manhandled?
There was once with Rankin I thought dubious but it looked he had one leg an the ground

Thought the same,
They weren't lifting us, we still had feet on the ground.
Good coaching I think. Don't put them down, get three in the tackle, hold them up and push them back 5m while the defensive line gets set. The new form of putting the player down and wrestling them onto their backs, except you gain more territory.
Well done Hasler.

This is simply another area for referees to interpret a rule inconsistency. One person will be allowed to be driven back 10m, while the next one will be held as soon as their forward momentum is stopped.

Gravity, understanding it is pretty simple, just like the rule book, yet we see rubbish like this in the modern game. Forward momentum halted, tackle complete, simple.

JAC was definitely lifted once , as I thought Rankin was as well as Naiqama

I'll mark the times when I rewatch the game JAC was defo 2nd half

This is now common strategy for a few teams.
Once they have hold of a player one guy lifts his leg off the ground while the others push him back.
Refs are hopeless and should call held every time and make the player go back to where he was lifted.
Unfortunately the teams employing this technique are coached by Hasler, Bellamy and Bennett - the untouchables.
Don't expect changes in a hurry until the lesser teams start doing it.

Just wanted to say, that in the game on Friday night a Parramatta player was tackled about a metre from his own try line (the ball had hit the ground) - he was then dragged into his in goal. How is that allowed?

Rules need to be enforced or get rid of them.
