The Mbye Conundrum

Pretty rare to have no idea what position your captain will be playing 2 months out from the start of the season.

It's also pretty rare for a player to play 5 seasons in the NRL and to have not nailed down a definite position.

He was solid at full back in the back half of the 2018 season. I think injuries prevented him from establishing himself at full back last year.

For the sake of team balance, if an injury-free Mbye can make full back his own, then Thommo plays left wing and Talau left centre. That looks pretty good to me.

Depends how Maguire feels about the rest of the team. If Talau and Momo are locked in at centre, he should be fullback. I think it more likely he'll play centre with Thommo at fullback.

I think he played his best footy at centre, in saying that we were a heaps better defensive side with him at fullback. I think Walters will suprise a few people at 9 this year

Yeah I'm happy with him @ 4

But 9 is a big issue , especially with the Reynolds uncertainty

If LM doesn’t come and he’s fit he has to play fullback.
I imagine it was only because he was playing injured that they moved him in the first place.

I haven't given up on Mbye, I still think he has a lot to contribute when 100% fit.

I agree with @Demps that 5/8 might be his best position, but I didn't mind him at centre. He's probably our safest option at hooker atm though, don't mind seeing how he goes there.

Worst case, he's a great 14 for us.

Wherever he ends up, hope he kills it because he seems like a top bloke.

he's very useful for his versatility and will be a solid 6 when benji hangs up his boots

yup, i don't rate him. I know he's played SOO last year and i don't think he should have been picked.


Yup, for the salary he is on compared to other players i don't think he is worth it at all.
