The National Anthem

@DieHarder I can say you are wrong that you can so easily dismiss the views of the many for the minority but I dont think its worth my effort. If you think changing the anthem, flag and date will help any indigenous who live outside of inner city sydney you are dead wrong.

@Kev Ok. If you say so , you’re on wobbly pegs here I think. Respect ur opinion nonetheless and well, let’s not decide who’s won the debate just yet.... AS I’m sure you know the govt. is claiming to be getting proactive about this but it’s on the back burner with liberals atm - to disagree is purely comical but after reading back on your posts over this entire thread - wouldn’t put it past you to claim that K. Rudd’s Apology didn’t actually mean anything to anyone.

Do you suffer any kind of similar problems integrating?? No? You sound old too so no offence but if you couldn’t even admit your views are slightly outdated then you’re not the sharpest tool in the shed. Not getting personal I think it’s quite sad and extremely ignorant. Also u pointed out that my view is formed solely on the basis of what my parents may say but the fact is I’d wager a whole lot that you’ve never seen the degree to which this impacts a country... you also don’t work in the public sector obviously

Man I’m out here working my ass off for no money to try and fill job vacancies for them. Do I complain or wanna do it forever? No, neither, it’s just absurd to think that things don’t change because you’re able to close your eyes to them

@Kev “outside of inner Sydney”

You’re a piece of work mate
Not that you have worked out west on farms? That much is obvious because they’re making massive strides to help THEMSELVES in these rural communities - you’re saying I’m wrong but can’t manage to say what about? As I said changing the anthem does not change anything but because the past is so terrible that mean’s nothing will change? Minority m8 😂

@DieHarder lol you have done nothing but attack me. Im reasonably old I suppose thats why im not attacking you back when you launch your petty insults. You sound juvenille son.

@DieHarder I literally have no idea what your point is. You are writing angry and your thoughts are hard to follow.
In dot points please lay out your argument and if you can, keep the emotion out. Thanks.

@Kev ok dad, agree to disagree I have not attacked you about anything bar a perceived ability to make white privileged comments. You most definitely showed ur cards by claiming that I’m misinformed and lol the age thing hey... go buy a coffin then that’s life. Planets will turn regardless of what either of us think however I’ve stated many times neither of us are wrong

An argument could even be made for neither of us being right and the best possible outcome with regards to topic being somewhere in the middle; however the best approach for now is sit back and see what unfolds. Feel free to disagree. The dinosaurs will die out eventually

Are there two of you dieharder? You sound like you are arguing with yourself at times. Angry and confused little boy methinks. I havent got time for your idiocy. See you.

Am I not allowed to be emotive in my writing about something for which I’m genuinely and passionately involved in mate?

Sorry, sir, I broke your rules sir!

And there it is..."white privilege"...

People's skin colour shouldn't mean their opinions mean less. Many people share his opinions, including young people.

More to the point...What's the solution? What would you do to change the situation?

Let's get this back on track and argue the solutions and policies as I think everyone would be happy if we could finally fix this issue for good.

@weststigers there's a whole lot of white privilege going on within Australia. It's a sad state of affairs. Some see it, most don't, but then, most of us are white. Ignorance to it is abundant.

not a big fan of getting into controversal topics, but oh well......

Well, than we get a bunch of kids who would refuse to stand or even sing the national anthem, now they probably wouldnt know the real reason behind why they are not doing it. Now when we sing the national anthem, we feel a sense of joy and pride, becuase we are proud that we are Australian and part of a country that is free. At the school that i go to, before we sing the anthem, we always have a segment before were they say a few words acknowledging the indegenous people who were on the land before us. So yeah.... im the worst a debates

@TheDaBoss all good mate, I'm just suggesting that kids in the Aboriginal sector of the community would be pretty well aware of why their family, friends, sporting hero's choose to abstain from singing the anthem. Whilst the topic only pops up occasionally on our radar, those that have an issue with it live with that.

They have the freedom to sing it, or not sing it if they feel it doesn't represent them. We commemorate ANZAC day for the freedoms they have guaranteed in this country.

As for the collecting the cheques you'll be hard pressed finding someone who can live to their ethics 100%. Greenies getting around in petrol fuelled cars, people protesting human rights abuses on iPhones with lithium in it mined by a 12 year old African boy with a crowbar, self proclaimed socialists who own investment properties, adherents of any major organised religion. None of us live our lives 100% in line with our purported morals and ethics.

Fair enough not singing the anthem, it doesn't do as good a job of representing the true history as New Zealands anthem tbh. It's not a young country like it says in the song, its tens of thousands of years old.

I'd like to think we could find a common ground and have an anthem like South Africa's

Just throwing it out there .....we pick one particular indigenous nations language from every state / territory and two lines of the chosen National Anthem are sung in that language and then the combination at the end in English linking us all

The idea would be to bring all of our nation's wonderful geographical features together in an anthem ......Highlands , reefs ,deserts , beaches ,rainforests , snow etc

It's a novel idea, but there were 200 nations mate. Not sure on how many languages have survived, I imagine there'd still be quite a few, and everyone would want their tongue & people represented so I'd say there'd be enough to not make the idea practicable. That's the distinct difference between us and NZ.

And that's where the link to the Geographical could come in CB ......your language may not be included ......but your link to the particular piece of land is

I am sure there is a way to make it work. Currently there is zero effort for inclusion of first nation people. That's pretty crazy.
