I can't believe the NRL continue to glorify boring footy. We see the Dragons do it each week and we saw Melbourne do it to us last week - Grinding out a win. Something needs to be done about the way the game is evolving.

The AFL has things like: The fact that it's already established; half AND quarter time where they can sell more advertising space (HUGE money maker)…
The best thing the NRL has is the game itself - it's fast, exciting, and anything can happen - but we're doing our best to lose it!
Grinding out a win is the most boring footy any team can produce. Why does the NRL persist in adjusting rules (such as the play the ball) to promote teams to try do LESS with the footy. It's getting to the point where the team who drops the ball the least, then has the most luck with that 50/50 kick-and-hope to the corner will win.

I know I'm a tiger, but the best season of footy has been 2005 because it was the year attacking footy was trumps. Ever since they changed the rules surrounding the play the ball in 2006 it's been going down hill.

Totally agree. The standard of game is getting worse cause of this Storm, Dragons dominated competition & every other bloody team trying to copy this style of play. The big bomb on the 5th tackle is the one that irks me its so boring & predictable. The NRL is becoming a robot league where the emphisis is on not making errors & low risk plays rule the game.
The only way to bring skill & fatigue back in the game is bring back the 5m rule & 6 interchanges

I dont know about the 5 meter rule but there is most definitely far too many interchanges.

It's my number one peeve in league (after gus gould's commentary). We're blessed being Tigers supporters. Can you imagine having to watch a side where its the same set of 6 and the same 5th tackle option all game?

Sure we are far more inconsistent than the Storm, but hey, at least that means some variety!

maybe a limit on the number of bombs you can use in a half of football?

limit it to 2 bombs per half. - That will screw teams like penrith to no end.

define a bomb as a kick that goes higher than the goalposts. Make it Black and White.

I liked the idea of going for the 4 point conversion from the trials, however nobody ever went for it.

and rather than going to a draw after 10 minutes in golden point - every 5 minutes each team drops off one player on the field. with interchanges only allowed to be made during the 5 minute stoppages.

Not doing anything about the salary cap doesn't help either.

So many talented players are either playing in Europe, Union or AFL.

Grinding wins in any sport are boring.
Example: UFC
The use of lay & pray, where one just holds the opponent down and wrestlers for the entire fight just to win by judge decision.
Or pressing and holding the opponent against the cage for as long as possible to gain points for the win.

I don't condone it & I think action should be taken!

Its a simpe answer because The game needs melbourne to do well so they referee the game accordingly to what suits melbourne, a boreathon. Its also the reason you dont see any wests tigers in origin teams but you will always see st george, manly and roosters players there its agenda based.

Or a try from a kick worth less points. Too big of a change to actually implement these rules, but the point is SOMETHING surely must be done about it!

You're spot on with the UFC! But Dana White sees this and is tries things to bring back the entertainment (although often unsuccessfully)

I just wish the NRL would take a step back and see how boring it's become. Watch a game from 20 years ago - It's not the low-risk footy that got people into the gates, so why are we letting it evolve this way?!

You have to appreciate good defence . There are two parts to every game and teams are better at one than the other . I know that people rag on the Storm and the Saints but these two teams can score some of the most attractive tries of any side . Isn't the onus on the team they are playing to break them down and make them play different footy . Bombs annoy me as well . Like Underdogs idea of two bombs a half . Only issue is how do you measure a bomb ?? If they do a three quarter chip do we class it as a bomb as well . Creates a grey area in the game and the game already has enough of those

Simple solution

Tries scored off kicks are worth 2 pts and you don't get a kick at goal. grubbers included.

problem solved.

The problem IMO is not the rules but HOW the teams approach these rules.

IMO Tigers and many other footy teams try to score more points than the opposing team, whilst Dragons, Melb etc. try to to let less tries.

Hope it makes sense?

dragons were by far the most boring premiers ive ever seen.
i blame the boring footy on melbourne for introducing all the wrestling tactics into league.

I got a simpler one for you.
Change the penalty for a dud kick (caught on full, over the dead ball line etc) from 20m tap to 30m or even 40m.
The other team then gets an oportunity to score themselves.

Catching a kick in your in goal on the full=40m restart
Catching a kick inside the 20m on the full=20m restart (or play on, give the catcher the option).

For all kicks that are kicked inside the attacking half.
