The pack

With our abundance of front row talent and scarcity of class in the second row some of our front rowers must adapt very quickly to playing in the second row. I hope Jason Taylor has been working on this very important neccessity,

Front row is now our strongest part of the team. We have a good rotation of props and good depth. Back-row is the weakest part of our team. Which is why I'm surprised Merrin's name keeps coming up as a player the WTs are interested in making a big offer for. Yes, I know he's played a lot at 13, however plays in the middle of the field.
IMO we need to do everything we can to get a standout 80 minute 2nd rower.

I wonder what weight Akauola will play at this season

He was under 100 kgs last season

Looks like he could really put some size on that frame with a big off season

Any suggestions on who that player may be?

Matt Woods is still a year or two away I assume?

Whats that Col?

Youre suggesting someone speculate on Mr social media about a possible new recruit???

I see. :neutral_face:

Average second rowers playing off a good go forward from a strong front row is very much better than good second rowers trying to have an impact behind a weak front row.
So given our reasonably strong front row, (if they can stay healthy), I think some of our young back rowers can really make an impact this year. It all starts up front. And I'm reasonably confident we can go forward well against most teams.
I'm less confident however, that our back line can capitalise on our go forward.

For once

i cant recall a big menacing pack in 2005\. Injuries were the key. we had none. I cant even remember a big menacing pack in 2010 when the ref let smith get jeremy smith get away kneeing tuqiri in the kidneys with a few minutes left on the clock in goal kicking range. Payten out. In fact i cannot recall ever us having a big menacing pack. Its just not us - YET. Im SO over waiting for the culture to change. Why is it taking so long to realize the obvious. Are Beavis & Butthead on the board?

Yep, nuts really…

For a little bit there early this year, we had some real grunt, which matched some if the biggest packs....

Let's hope this pre-season's training regime has more of that in mind...

Still not convinced by Akauola.
He really needs to step up.

I am still not convinced by Galloway. For a player of his experience now, he in not on the same planet as other starting props at other clubs.

I've said it before and I'll say it countless times again until I see some change; we don't need an 80 minute work horse second rower.

Woods, Taupau, Sironen, Akauola and Lodge the starting pack. Ava, Galloway, Sue and Santi on the bench.
20' Taupau off, Santi on. Lodge to prop, Santi to lock.
25' Woods off, Galloway on.
30' Lodge off, Ava on.
50' Galloway off, Sue on at prop.
55' Ava off, Woods on.
60' Santi off, Sue to lock, Taupau on.
70' Sue off, Lodge on.

Very rough but there's 7 interchange out of 10, leaving wiggle room to spell Sirro and Sita as necessary.
50 minutes for Woodsy;
40 for Taupau, Lodge and Santi;
30 for Sue;
25 for Ava and Keef;
As many as needed for Akauola and Sironen.

Again, it's not perfect, but for me we're only undersized for 5 minutes where Ava, Sue and Santi are on the field together but in the following 5 we have Woods and Marty return. This of course assumes everyone is playing to their potential, but either way.

We have an 80 minute workhorse back rower signed up already. Problem is were not sure if he's ready for the week-to-week grind of the NRL -Yet.

Mr Santi please stand up..

It was a very different game in 05

There's nothing small about our pack. Akauola is probably our smallest forward. KG,Woods,Sirro, Ava, Taupau, Lodge and Sue aren't small.

I think we are seriously underestimating our pack. The 1st 7 Rounds this year we held our own and it was only when injuries occurred we fell in a hole, the blokes that stepped in gained some experience.
My concern is when we get some injuries the experience isn't there to carry us through and we are definitely lacking edge playing Forwards. We get no injuries? will win the Comp :wink:
