The players culture in WT is woeful

Thanks to Mr Sheens Mick Potter has inherited a woeful players culture… We seem to have a "lazy" culture among the players (Captain and Fulton excluded)..They just don't seem to care enough...care enough to try their guts out and spill for the team; care enough to play as a TEAM for a team result rather than as individuals for individual accolades and ego boosts.

Looking at Benji last year and this...he rarely looks upset when he throws a wayward pass into the 2nd row..Blair is just a lazy s*it who gives away penalties due to his lazy attitude...BMM for some reason has not fulfilled his promise...Miller apparently has a "you owe me" attitude without feeling he has to earn anything...Moltzen will only pull out a half decent game if his position is under threat....

Look at Fifita he was an average footballer with us who had massive attitude issues, Sheens didn't want him...and look at him now..knocking on the door for SOO...why?

I place the blame squarely on Sheens for this mess. I feel sorry for Potter as he has inherited these perennial under achievers and it will take time for him to weed them out..He also needs to be tough on them and show some of them NSW CUP time but as we have so many injuries he cant really do this now..

2013 is almost written off unless we can string some wins over the next 6 weeks...If/when we do get to the stage that 2013 is a write off I hope Potter shows all under performers some tough love...If he fails to do this in 2103/2014 its clear his contract won't be extended.....we have some really great kids coming through and they need to be shown and develop the right culture...and i'm afraid apart from a Farah & Fulton...there is no one else for them to look up to of any worth.

There's quite a few toilers besides Farah and Fulton. Sue, Woods, Koroibete and even ayshford have been good.

Anasta seemed to relish his time at 7 and was always up in people's faces to tackle and trying to do more work than he was required by covering people like Lawrence's positons which actually ended up in him looking foolish sometimes. Wanna see him back that up in R12 when he returns though because his 2nd Row spell was atrocious…

Also, Simona and Reddy have not shirked much. Granted Tim has seen little FG and we will see his true colours come Friday.

The real shirkers let downs have been Lawrence, Blair, Spence and Benji. Besides that the team has often put in good efforts in recent weeks. Even if results don't indicate the same I think most are trying their guts out when clearly outclassed and outmuscled.

In a way I agree with u, I have often wondered why the team seems to have a half hearted attitude and lack confidence. But I think ur being a bit harsh by pointing the finger and blaming, scapegoating is kinda cheap and unfair really.

Self confidence on an individual and collective basis can sometimes be complicated and difficult to tie down.

I really believe we have the players and team to kick arse and the difference between being a winner and loser can often be very little…...

At times this year they have shown some heart and gusto, they just need to it more often , more consistently

If we kick on and put it together, which is still possible this year, rather than the masses knocking Sheens, they will be saying what good foresight he had to get so many good young players together

Optimist? Maybe, maybe not

I disagree. I think they are trying. They just haven't been good enough to match it with the opposition based on the sides they have been putting on the park.

You have made fair points I hope time proves me wrong….

Culture is bullshit. Culture is having better players and fit players and then teams win and everyone says they have a better culture.

I think the Boys club culture worked when everybody was fit, strong and playing well but that hasnt been the case since Payten retired. I think there is a lack of leadership by big strong forwards and obviously the backs have little leadership as well. Farah tries but he is mostly on his own except for Woods,

It all started the moment Folkes was told by Sheens he was no longer the head of strength and conditioning. The players didnt want him because he was too tough on them.

Even Farah doesnt train hard his performances are purely a case of determination and being a competitor.

Theres nothing worse then getting told about the club you love from someone who was inside it all and left.

The current "culture" could probably reflect the team's performance and vice versa.

Im sure we'd be seeing a very different team "culture" if the Tigs were performing.

Losing 4 (is it 4 or 5? i've lost count) can do things to a team.

I think the departure of players like Heighington and Ryan has had an effect on the character of the team and how they respond to situations like the one they are in now as a unit.

But Robbie for all his effort is not in the clear. He is after all the captain. It's his job to lead his troops. Their lack of "culture" could also be seen to reflect how effective he is at his job as a captain.

They are a brittle team mentally. Have been for years and it won't change anytime soon.

A good point here. But why,do you think? Why are they so brittle?

My thoughts (and there's no science to them) is that privately and individually they know one of their supposed superstars (i.e. Marshall) is shockingly overrated, overexposed, gets a media profile that he doesn't deserve.

Enough of them try their guts out in any one game only to get to a point where Marshall becomes involved and will do something ridiculous only to lose the advantage they've worked so hard to gain.

In other words, they know he's a liability more than an asset but despite all the evidence that supports their case, nothing changes with Benj. He keeps getting picked, lauded, praised and given media prominence…for doing SFA.

It can only eat away at the confidence in their own judgement and the trust they put in the leaders of the place that allow that to happen. It lust be mental torture for the larger playing group.

As Bruce Springsteen put it so eloquently; "Lord, have mercy on the man who doubts what he's sure of".

Without being there it is hard to gauge what the culture is like, but the rumours about the playing group reminds me of Parramatta from 2008-2012.

Hence to say the Coach has very little ability to 100% make the decisions he would like to make… Mind you, the coach will cope the blame and become the fall guy!

Do you have any sources to back up this claim? I would find it hard to believe as I recall that most players only had good things to say about Folkes.

If this is true it sums everything up.

Sources would definitely be useful as this is another assumption being thrown out there with no proof.

I think you are clutching at straws desperately trying to find tangible reason why we are bottom of the table. Personally I think it's because of a horrendous injury list and a couple of players out of form. I can live with that as I don't expect the earth each time they run out and except that these things happen & can happily get on with my life.

I tend to agree and I'll also say this; there IS a bludging mentality in the pack except for Fulton and Woods. Watch them with the ball, see the lack of hunger to do the hard yards and make big effort runs. Look at the stats and the amount of runs Woods does compared to the rest of them.

They are content for Koro to do the dirty work to the extent he injures himself. They are content to see Utai do the dirty work which keeps him in the team when we need a taller, better winger on the field. They are content to stand by and watch Woods cart it up twice a set - how long can he keep that up for? Do they care???

A couple of them do some work in patches but there is nowhere near the effort required from most.

I do think the young fellas coming through have the right attitude , the problem is they don't have enough leaders on field to point them in the right direction

That will change ,Potter will slowly weed out the deadwood and bring through the young talent

He can't do it all at once ,we would get destroyed and it would be bad for them mentally

Change is occurring ,we just have to try and stay patient

Our culture is that bad in my opinion that it takes a 22 year old virtual rookie to lead by example. Woodsie i'm thinking of you. That guy's a legend.
