THE PRESSURE TO PERFORM STARTS EARLY

Wests Tigers Captain Robbie Farah agrees with Test centre team-mate Chris Lawrence that the side must start strongly next season to lay an early foundation for premiership success.

Lawrence recently told weststigers.com.au it was vital the side gets off to a flying start to the 2012 Telstra Premiership instead of relying on a late season winning streak to make the finals as was the case again this year.

Farah said the entire squad must continue to work hard over the summer to ensure success will come early.

“That’s the only way you get anything in life. To get any success, you have just got to work hard,’’ Farah stated.

“We are starting to slowly create that culture here at the club, that great work ethic and that winning culture.

“Even though there have been missed opportunities in the last two years, we are the only club in the last two years to have made the top 4 consecutively. I think that is a great achievement in itself. Unfortunately things haven’t gone our way in the semi-finals.

“If you start the season strongly and win consecutive games early, the pressure is off you.

“Look at the Dragons this year. They won 10 of their first 11 and even though they lost 8 of their last 10, they still finished the regular season fifth. There wasn’t that pressure on them to win to make the finals.

“It has been different for us as we have been chasing our tail and have developed this habit of finishing strongly.

“With the McIntyre System the way it is, you want to finish first or second to ensure you have home ground advantage right throughout the finals. It is such a massive advantage.

“The goal this year was to finish first but we left our run a bit too late. We came home strong but hopefully next year we can start our run a bit earlier. We need to.”

“If you start the season strongly and win consecutive games early, the pressure is off you."
So true Robbie, WTs after a big start to 2012, out of the blocks on song, give the comp a good shake, set a good pace.

I don't think that is going to be as easy as it sounds with probably a new 7 and possibly a new fullback
We will really need to work on combinations in the off season and trial games

That true, in fact I'm looking forward to the trials to see what combos Sheens puts in place for starters.
