@Bismark said:I agree with Mascord. Conceding less penalties will win you games.
There is a perception in the game that if the penalty count is high, the ref's have screwed you. Likewise if it's low, the ref's have gifted you the game. Have absolutely NO idea where this perception has come from. The simply fact is taught to you in under 6's: **IF YOU DON'T BREAK THE RULES, YOU WON'T BE PENALISED.**
@Flippedy said:This is true for the most part, Bismark, but you have to admit the refs can really get it wrong sometimes. Some of the calls they make these days are atrocious!
@AmericanHistoryX said:We have to get with the times & follow
the Americans - bring in coaches challenge as soon as possible. 3 challenges per half because he refereeing is atrocious. To say the least. I believe this is the best way to exclude the ref from the game as much as possible especially their decisions.

@AmericanHistoryX said:I just think the refs have too much power - they change the course of the game in negative ways - this should be thwarted. A coaches challenge can be as long as the video ref decision- same amount of time - I'm not saying copy the Americans but use their technology and customize it to our game. They only reason England made it through to the last 8 in the European Cup this morning is because there was no technology to challenge the ref when Ukraine scored i. e the ball crossed the goal line & the ref didn't award the goal. Hence the ref changed the course of the game in a negative outcome. Ukraine are out. The refs have too much power & they are not responsible enough to embrace this power hence the challenge to the ref and if it takes 3 mins then so be it but at least we will get the right decision.

@sunshine coast tiger said:The problem I have with referees is their too inconsistent. Last week the Roosters slowed the PTB down all game and were not penalised heavily enough for it (especially in the first half, they are the most penalised side for a reason). We had too many penalities against us in the first half.
For mine the PTB needs to be sorted. Get rid of domiannt and surrender tackles. Have the ref called held, move it, then count to 3, if the tackler is still there or in the way, penalise them. The teams will soon learn and it would get rid of most wrestling from our game.
A fast play the ball will lead to better rugby league being played. The 2005 comp had the biggest crowds because teams like the Tigers and Cowboys played great rugby league on the back of quick play the balls. I say return to that.
