The Sent Off is dead

If a team is playing in a big game, what's stopping a coach (other than morals) to send out their number 17 to take out the oppositions star player?
Terry Lamb did it in a GF as did Michael Crocker.

From News.com
The last player sent off in the NRL was Newcastle prop Kade Snowden for a hit on North Queensland’s Ray Thompson back in round 24, 2013.
Speaking on Tuesday, Bulldogs forward Greg Eastwood said: “No one gets sent off nowadays. I wasn’t that surprised when he just got put on report.

Heard Kent and Ikin talking about this last night and someone brought up the judiciary and no send offs because of the judiciary

We have had a judiciary for how many bloody years now

The problem is again referees and officials , they are so scared of getting it wrong

The ref's did get it wrong, by not Sending the player off.
If you take someone out and you get Sent Off, the game is back to a even number of players on each team. If you dont get marched then the team that has had a player taken out is at a disadvantage. Whatever happens at the judiciary isn't going to help the team that has had a players taken out and plays with 16 players.

What's to stop JT from sending out Jack Buchanan to take out Sam Williams or Josh Hodgson? That way we can play them with our 17 players against their 16\. The worst thing that could happen to us is we give away a penalty. Then Jack goes to the judiciary misses a couple of games, we replace him with Brenden Santi or Lamar Liolevave.
I'm not saying we should do this, however the way the game is being ref'ed it's an easy way to win games.

isn't the "sent off" just bring it back to even (16 on 16) , if someone is taken out?

Nope, my understanding is that that player is off for the rest of the game and then it becomes 12 v. 13, basically a red card in soccer. Correct me if i am wrong.

yep. you're correct Milky. that why ref's aren't sending anyone off.
the sent off rule should be looked into because currently the team the takes someone out has the advantage of 17 on 16.

Sooner or later the previously mentioned scenario will be used in a big game.
If the infringement is bad enough , then the player should be sent off. Some players play close to the line when they play, and it's their decision whether they go too far or not
The team that is infringed against gets nothing out of the judiciary suspending the player for a month later on.
There's been plenty occasions of teams still winning games a man short, and who cares if they don't , if one of their players has taken out another player that's their bad luck.
It's about time that the team who has lost a good play, gets the consideration, not the perpetrators team.
It's not , "will a team deliberately send a lower player on to take out a star from the other side,? "
It's "when will it occur?"

I remember Kent and TK talking about it on the BSB as well Happy. So because we have a judiciary, we won't march the bloke, give your team any advantage apart from a penalty and you've got to play 1 man down for the rest of the game while the opponents of your opposition in the next few weeks get an advantage.

What a bloody cop out.
