We look like a million dollars at training and everyone knows where to be and what lines or plays to run. Come game day, after a few sets it all goes out the window and they look like a team who hasn’t been coached (very embarrassing lol). Is it the coach or is it the players?? Is it that I’m not getting through to the players or will they play like us regardless of who is the coach? Sounds like a tigers dilemma lol.
Mate the reason for that is they are 14.
Thanks champ
I know it was a short response, but I honestly believe that to be the case. 14 year olds are really at that transition phase and their thinking is all over the place. Trying to get them to do anything consistently is almost impossible. At that stage they are really getting introduced to the structures of the game for the 1st time and that is your role. Building on the fundamentals they have learnt and exposing them to the structures they will see as they get older.
Don't worry too much about what you do at training disappearing on game day, they are going to lose track of that when they play but the structures you are introducing now at training are not just for the weekend, it is teaching them about the game they will be playing in 2 years time if that makes sense?
