Slater playing the 'victim' card. again. "I'm ok…I'm not in pain". You got a harmless open palm to the face you grub.

This grub is held in the highest honour by a lot of people in the game yet keeps having "accidents" and things he says are "taken out of context"

Lets not forget it was also Slater that abused Corey Paterson because he suffered from depression in 2010\. I hope someone just smashes the crap out of him one day.

You do realize that if you know how to apply an open palm correctly , you can put someone's nose cartilage through the thin part of the skull and kill them ??

Look he has done some bad things and done some good things over his career

Grub ?? No

So if you got hit in the face for no reason you would just take it?? He defended himself, simple as that.

Id LOVE to see how you'd react to a ''harmless'' open palm to your face, outside a nightclub at 3 in the morning

Shock horror that all the Slater/Storm haters have jumped on the bandwagon here

While I do think he's a bit of a niggly/dirty player on-the-field he does appear to have been provoked. That said I haven't seen the footage yet.

Is he a grub? Absolutely, most definitely, 100%!

Dirtiest player in the game bar none. Way ahead of Ennis and co.

But in this circumstance he was provoked in public space and should be allowed to defend himself.

I agree with everyone else here Irvine, you are way off base mate.
The drunken little turd was causing havoc apparently and was itching for a blue. You may call a slap harmless but I can tell you that an open handed slap…especially to the ear can mess you up. Billy was well within his right to defend himself and from what I saw got a good one on the clowns chin to boot.

The other guy was waiting in line..watch the video.

Have you watched the video..that's not what happened.

Rugby League news

Billy Slater is one lucky son-of-a-gun. Like everyone following the rugby league World Cup, I was disappointed to learn the Australian fullback had been involved in a late, late incident at a Manchester nightclub.

I heard (and watched) him being interviewed at length in the aftermath.

I have to say that I was somewhat relieved to hear he had been cleared of any serious wrong-doing and would be available to play for the Kangaroos against USA in Saturday’s quarter final.

And then I saw this:

Self defence? Really? Maybe take another look. Am I seeing things? Just who is the victim here?

A guy standing in line awaiting entry to the club premises appears to say something and ‘Our Billy’ places both hands on him in what looks to be an attempt to calm him down.

The man then pushes Slater away with an open hand, but then – whammo.

A king hit if ever I’ve seen one. The man in question was not facing Slater and gets creamed by a heavy right fist from the Australian rugby league player.

OK, we are told the police questioned Slater at length down at the nearby station and, upon completion of their enquiries, completely absolved him of all blame.

They even asked if Slater wanted to press charges but he declined.

Obviously, I wasn’t there and there is no audio accompanying the CCTV video but it sure looks to me that Billy Slater’s reaction was way too strong and even bordering on vicious.

Why then, does everyone go to great lengths to downplay the incident? Daily Telegraph reporter Paul Crawley, in Manchester covering the Cup, says he believes Slater was the victim.

We hear Australian coach Tim Sheens told the player he was disappointed he had been embroiled in an incident that had taken the focus off the job at hand – winning the World Cup.

No mention about the time of the fracas, however, from the coach. Somewhere between 2am and 3am. That’s not when world class athletes are supposed to be in action.

It seems no penalty will be imposed on Slater who was “defending himself”.

On Instagram, Slater’s wife vented her anger on her hubby’s assailant, claiming he could have killed her man, the father of their young children.

Well, take a good look at the video clip again.

The incident in the club foyer was a gross over-reaction from Slater and he is exceptionally lucky to beat an assault charge and heavy discipline from the Australian officials, namely a fine and a suspension.

Let me say I have no agenda against Slater – he is an exceptional footballer. I am clearly basing my thoughts in this article on the CCTV footage that has surfaced.

Has Billy The Kid been hit in the backside by a rainbow? The other guy certainly wasn’t.

No slater fan but you're all kinds of stupid if you think billy didn't have a reason to retaliate. The guy got what he deserved.

The other bloke does look as if he's looking past Slater to someone at his side….but if you shove someone in the face you need to expect what he copped.

Youre off your head irvine

This 'The Roar' writer clearly does have an agenda...and nfc
"A king hit if ever I’ve seen one" = LMAO

Ok watched it again Irvine, from what it looks like, Slater has had words with the fella, but from the way he patted the bloke on the shoulder it certainly did not appear he was confrontational in any way. The other bloke has struck Bill and he copped one back.

One of the best pieces of advice I ever recieved was if you are going to throw the first punch, you better make it a good one because you never know who you are dealing with and chances are the return will be even harder. The bloke punched first and assumed that was that. He is an idiot. Billy reacted exactly as I would have and got the better of him. He did not go on with it, didnt smash the fella senseless….open and shut case.

I can understand that people will over react at the moment, especially with the current feelings towards this type of thing over the kings cross death, but this is a non story and an absolute beat up from this Prentice clown.

Sheens made the best comment...we are in a world cup campaign with the real footy about to start. You shouldnt be out at 3 in the morning. This I feel is the more important aspect of the story.

Thanks for pointing that out Ink.

If I was highly paid professional footballer with some intelligence … YES I would just take it and move on because I deal with it every day. It's part of being high profile and I get paid exceedingly well to catch a ball and move on.

YES If someone punched me again being a high profile sportsman I wouldn't smash him in the face. I would just take it.

Unfortunately Billy only knows how to "accidentally" kick someone in the throat..."accidentally" elbow a player on the ground. Abuse a player about his depression and be "taken out of context".

Then there is the James Graham biting incident....another innocent mishap.

Its amazing how ignorant people are. They see someone carry on like a wank on the footy field and automatically assume that they are grubs off it. I can think of 1 particular player who is supposedly one of the nicest guys you could ever meet off the field who donates a lot of time to charities. Do you know who this guy is? Michael Ennis. Yes that same Michael Ennis who is considered one of the biggest slime balls in the NRL, yet look at him off the field.

The moral of the story is, you're off your head if you presume to know a player and his personality away from the field.
