I'm sorry guys but i have to side with Irvine and Fade To Black on this one….I don't think someone would push another person in the face without a reason. Also if Slater wasn't their at 3am in the morning then this situation wouldn't of happened also if Slater didn't push in in the first place this situation wouldn't of happened. I understand that he can and should be able to go out and enjoy himself with his team mates but when you are a professional athlete and everyone knows who you are you should not be out an about at 3 am anywhere let alone a Night club on the drink. I watched the cctv footage a few times and watched it just now aswell and IMO what happened was Slater patted the guy on the shoulder and said something to him and and then while turning his head to the bouncer the guy palmed him in the face. Now would you palm someone in the face for patting you on the shoulder? Unless he was getting on your nerves and pissing you off and said something to set you off. Also we have no idea what was said and what happened before the incident. All we saw was a 6 second clip.

Obviously never been at a pub at 3.00am with a heap of drunks

Alcohol can do some strange things to people

Your missing my point Slater SHOULD NEVER OF been at a pub at 3:00 am on the piss. Also if i was out at 3:00am at a pub on the drink with my mates my dad would belt the shit out of me lol (Not literally of course i think…...LOL)

he had returned to grab a jacket. thats why he is alone and talking with the doorman tolet him in for a sec and why the other guy thoughthe was pushing in

This whole incident has been blown way out of proportion. Watching the footage you can see Slater was trying to calm the situation, his body language clearly shows it. The other bloke for some reason decides to give him a hard shove to the face, and Slater defends himself. How is Slater supposed to know the guy will only hit him once? Is he meant to wait until the guy completely lays into him before he starts fighting back? Slater may be a grub on the field, but off it he seems like a decent bloke, and he has no history involved in such incidents which would back up that belief. He says he did nothing wrong, the police agree with him (after watching the same footage we've all seen) and offered him the right to press charges against them, which is a fair hint he hasn't done anything wrong.

It has been blown out of proportion, I listen to the sports radio shows and this has been #1 topic for a few days.
It seems the DTs initial kneejerk & incorrect sensationalist headlines painting slater at fault has upset quite a lot of people when its become evident he is in fact the victim

Im no fan of his incidents on field, though at times he is also brilliant….but that is all irrelevant where this situation is concerned

It is clearly shown in the cctv footage that Slater was saying something to the man so while looking at the bouncer the man shoved Slater in the face then put his hand back down then while the man was still looking at the bouncer Slater punched him.But i do agree with you Re: this whole thing being taken out of proportion.

Whether he was supposed to be at the pub or not is a completely different manner

Maybe he noticed the thing he left behind many hours later and it meant something to him or he was going to be leaving the next morning

Whether he was attacked at 3.00 am in the morning or 11.00 am in the morning isn't the issue

It is what happened to Billy (as MM says ) and what he did in response

Nothing more or nothing less

If you where at a night club and left the night club at 9pm and then while watching Tv at 2:30am you reminded your self that you forgot your jacket at the Night club would you go and get it? But i don't think this was the case,I think that Slater left the club and just as he was about to go back he remembered that he forgot he's jacket ( Like most people do) and pushed in line. Anyways their is nothing you can do to change my opinion and i'm pretty sure that their is nothing i can do to change yours so i think this thread should be locked because we will just bicker and bicker until the cows come home and i think every one that wants to has stated their opinions on this subject already.

Watching the footage, watching Billy talking to the guy, he is clearly in a defensive pose, as though he is trying to calm a situation, after copping a gob full from this bloke. Do I know what was said? No, but I can go by his body language.

I hope slaters misses feels like a dill today. King hit…the only thing I saw was a little bloke who shoves slater in the side of the head and while the little blokes complaining to the bouncer about slater pushing in, slater king hits him back.I mean the little guy isnt even looking at slater. I suppose billys wife is right about king hits, its just she might have to have a word to her own husband. Leagues attitude to violence is so prehistoric and warped its laughable. But as usual slater will be applauded for his weak, unprofessional, blockhead over reaction.

110%

He is representing our game and more importantly his country. He took a sledgehammer approach to a reasonably minor incident and should have been dealt with harshly by management.

The guy is not some young up and comer, he is a 30 odd year old man with a family and seasoned representative player, that has no doubt been well educated on such matters by his club and the league over the years.

This incident, on top of his on field antics, confirms that he is indeed a grub.

Crazy discussion… At 3am and your full of juice, you dont think or behave like a sensible/reasonable person.

It doesn't matter who or what, the shove was intended as an aggressive action and you deal with it appropriately.

If you are an aggressive person (90% Footballers) it escalates, if your a passive person (computer nerd), you ignore it.

I have no love for Slater…or Qlders on a whole......but gees, the bloke gets hit in the head by a random then he deserves a right of reply.

IMO Slater was totally within his rights to retaliate...he was king hit fair and simple and the di.ckhead who did it got what he deserved. This push thing has me laughing,he cocked a fist and attacked the hed of a bloke that wasnt looking.

If i got whacked in the head,by someone I dont know while i wasnt looking I wouldnt be happy and I would do the same as Slater as Im sure most of you would.

You just dont touch other peeps heads.

What I meant was –what difference does it make if he remembered he forgot his jacket 2 minutes after leaving, or at 2am at home watching TV

shouldve quoted....

Pretty much this. Its a shame there are some who can't separate their hatred of someone's on-field persona to their off-field one and assume they must be a grub in real life as well.
