They Made Tim Sheens A Life Member?

Remember how he sued the club because he expected to get paid to do nothing for 2 years? And we had to settle for an unspecified amount? "But that's the contract we made" you argue. The Wests Tigers conceded to a contract like that because they were in danger of losing Sheens to someone else - he manuvered himself into that contract position. He set up a contract with no KPIs, so he could not be held to account even when he needed to be. And look at what happened to the club in 2012, preseason premiership favourites but we finished 10th, and ever since then we've finished bottom 4.

He made his bed in setting up a contract like that for himself, he should not be a life member.

Really not much difference between Sheens' and Farah's contacts.

He's been gone for a while… Time to let bygones be bygones... Remember the positives. Without him we have no premiership im sure

In time I will think this way of Farah too

It's not like it's the same board or ceo that helped him out the door and are now giving him this.

I don't know why people struggle to realise that the Tigers are not some living entity, whoever made a decision years ago, does not mean the current people must uphold said problems or issues.

Tim Sheens is the one who arranged for that contract to be set up so that Tim Sheens benefited like that, and Tim Sheens is the same person.

And it's not the same as Farah, they specifically asked Farah if they could backend his contract like that (paid unders now, paid overs later so it all works out) because of problems the club was experiencing (and continues to experience really).

Tim Sheens is not the one who presented himself this reward. I made no mention of Farah at all.

The new board and new CEO decided to do this and are obviously trying to distance themselves from any bad blood, given they had nothing to do with the circumstances of his termination.

Sorry, I wasn't referring to you when it came to Farah.

Good points. I don't get the hate against Farah though. I think its so overblown and I've never been a huge fan.

Yes true he was the only coach to get us to the semis

But for a bloke who carried so much power at the WT's and he couldn't get the side to change their ways (and he did , he wanted us to try and grind games out ) or management to buy the right players in the end

Definitely deserves it…..turned the Club around ...Was at the helm when we won the Comp....in the end stayed too long ...don't begrudge asking him for what he was entitled ...he never sued they settled out if Court....

Sheens...expect changes...

How can anyone begrudge him this??

The contract, which the club wanted him to sign has nothing to do with it. Even though I was happy to see the back of him, he was surely within his rights to sue and that does not detract from his achievements with the Tigers.

He is a legend of the club. How many of us would have thought a premiership was within the first decade after the merger. I did not count on one in my lifetime.

The club wanted him to sign it BECAUSE THEY WERE GONNA LOSE HIM TO ANOTHER CLUB IF HE DIDN'T! It was a disgusting contract, the real ramifications of which became obvious in what Sheens demanded later. And didn't Sheens staying with the Wests Tigers work out well…

God bless Sheens and well deserved.

He is the only coach in my lifetime to bring us a grand final win, and with a bunch of kids.

For those harping on about suing the club🙂

1) WT are the masters of financial/contract mismanagement, why the surprise?
2) I like to see you made redundant from your work and then come back on this forum and tell us how you loved your former employer so much that you didn't take the redundancy package which you are legally entitled too.

Tim Sheens will be a legend as long as we remember 2005, the rest is all emotional gobble wash.

Some JT loyalists on this forum state we were a field goal away from 11th spot.

Under Sheens, how close were we from making more semis and grand final wins under Sheens? For Christ sakes we almost made the grand final in 2010 with Robert Lui at half back? Who knows what would have happen If it wasn't for bad referring in regards to smith kneeing Taquiri and Darius Boyd not playing the ball properly in front of the sticks. I'm sure we would be having a different discussion on this topic.

It wasn't a redundancy package. It was a contract that should never have been made. As I said earlier, Sheens made his own bed in doing a contract like that which led to the fiasco afterwards. He was left out of the 15th anniversary celebrations last year for a reason.

Sheens…..we had some success around 09-11 and other clubs came knocking. We panicked and wrote him a blank cheque then realised it was a mistake 15 months later. He was right to expect a payout, and the club made a massive balls up on that one. To blame Sheens is ridiculous. Most other coaches at the end of their career would have done the same.

I never thought a coach shouldn't receive a payout for a contract cut short. But Sheens was going to invoice the club direct regularly, as if he was still in the coach's position, until the remaining two years was done with. When the club stopped paying him 6 months in it was considered to be them drawing a line in the sand, and rightly so. I can blame Sheens for holding the club over a barrel and setting up an unreasonable safety net for himself. He can't avoid accountability.

Sheens was contracted with the club for another 2 seasons. When the club terminates the contract it's on them to pay him out. They didn't. He rightfully stood his ground.

I'm glad he received life membership of this club.
10 years as head coach, a premiership and a couple of really good years. In fact we were the favourites going into 2012\. The wheels fell off that year and every one since but I am proud of the footy we played in the Sheens era.
