Wests Tigers are pleased to announce that Corey Thompson has signed a new playing contract with the club.

The new two-year deal will see Thompson remain with Wests Tigers until the end of 2021.

Since joining Wests Tigers at the start of the 2018 season, Thompson has been a standout performer with 14 tries in his 33 appearances so far for the club.

Thompson said he was thrilled to extend his playing future with Wests Tigers.

“It feels great to re-sign with the club and I can’t wait to be here for another two years,” Thompson said. “I don’t want to go anywhere — I love playing at the Wests Tigers and to have my future sorted for another two years is really great for me.

“Now that my contract is sorted, I’m just concentrating on playing consistent first-grade and playing good footy for the club and help take Wests Tigers to the finals.”

Wests Tigers Head Coach Michael Maguire said Thompson’s new deal was a testament to his hard work at training his commitment on the field.

“I’m very pleased to see Corey commit his future to Wests Tigers,” said Maguire.

“He works extremely hard and embodies the values by which we want to be known as a team and is exceptionally well liked by the playing group and coaching staff.

“Even with his experience, Corey is still improving and growing in his game as an outside back, and I’m looking forward to seeing him continue to develop in the coming years.”

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe praised Thompson for his professionalism and said he was pleased to secure the versatile outside back for another two seasons.

“As a club, we’re delighted to secure Corey for a further two seasons,” said Pascoe.

“Corey plays with a tremendous attitude on the field but he also has an exceptional attitude off it as well and we’re very pleased to have someone of his character as part of our team.

“Ever since he joined Wests Tigers, Corey been extremely loved by our Members and fans and we look forward to him continuing to play a vital role at this club in the years ahead.”

Corey is good for Tigers standards. Not the best physically or skills wise but he tries really really hard.

And that’s all we’re looking for really. Give it your best shot but most importantly have fun.

How quick some people on this forum have turned on Thompson. Everyone was singing his praises before and after one bad game people are happy to see him walk.

Can you imagine if we signed Corey Oates and he played like he did v Parra

Lynch mob ....

Well within their rights ...I wonder if Oatey was one of the players mentioned by Sieb's who had his bags packed for Origin..

In all seriousness, if he came reasonably priced and he is drifting in and out of first grade by the end of 2021 because we have better in the backline it's not a bad outcome.
