If someone says I believe in x, no one cares. When people state that their beliefs are the truth, inferring that everyone else in wrong, then people will feel the need to attack the statement and the person.

It is exactly the same with football posts on this forum, when people state there opinion as fact (even blind Freddy can see...), it starts an argument.

The issue I have with organised religion is the disgusting acts that have been done in the name of religion over the centuries, the amounts of deaths that can be directly attributed to religion. Then you have the disgusting behaviour of the Catholic Church, behaviour that still continues today. I have no doubt that their is not a god, what almighty being would allow people who claim to be his representatives on earth to display such conduct in their name?

@Sart0ri
Well in a sense that is the main issue.
Mine is the one true god. Ummmm sorry but I believe this. That starts wars.
I have friends that are muslim, christian, western arnhem kundjeibme, atheists, pagan even catholics and I can get along with all of them. They are all entitled to their beliefs as long as they don't try to dump them on me or my home.
Respect, not arrogance, is the key

@Geo Hold it. This thread is devolving into personal attacks. Where's a mod when you need it?

It's a belief not an attack..

And the same could be said about Political Parties .......how many sports supporters have been killed because of who they support ....where do you draw a line

Let’s round the figures to make it easier. There are approximately 4,200 religions. Each believe the other 4,199 religions are wrong. Non-believers think 4,200 religions are wrong. Go figure.

There are 16 teams in the NRL and the supporters of each team believe that the supporters of each team believe that the supporters of each other team are backing the wrong team. Some things never change so why argue?

@Abraham please allow me to fill in some gaps given you made some assumptions in the other thread and I didn’t have the opportunity to reply.

I was bought up in a religious home with family who love and care for each other.As an adult I made a choice based on what I saw, read and subsequently deduced that religion was not for me and to believe in God but not in religion.

What I have deduced is that those that believe in religion often choose to recite only things that fit their agenda as you did. My upbringing taught me that the bible also talks about lighting the way for those that can’t see, it talks about compassion and understanding towards those that may have lost or never had faith. In your two post you absolutely forgot about that.

You could have just said to my post and many others that you disagree as you suggested I do but you didn’t. You choose to elaborate. You claim I was being rude or condescending (I’m not quoting) but I wasn’t, your were.

You choose to attack and belittle those who disagree with your posts or beliefs as is their choice to do in a forum. So be it, but I ask you where is your understanding and compassion, instead of attacking us show us the light, where is your Christianity?

Please don’t see this as an invite or challenge. As always my posts are only my opinion.

Russell's teapot is an analogy, formulated by the philosopher Bertrand Russell (1872–1970), to illustrate that the philosophic burden of proof lies upon a person making unfalsifiable claims, rather than shifting the burden of disproof to others.

Russell specifically applied his analogy in the context of religion. He wrote that if he were to assert, without offering proof, that a teapot, too small to be seen by telescopes, orbits the Sun somewhere in space between the Earth and Mars, he could not expect anyone to believe him solely because his assertion could not be proven wrong.

I believe that Pastafarians use the same argument to ask people to disprove that the universe was created through the bodily functions of the Flying Spaghetti Monster

What a rubbish comment, organised religion has actively tried to cover up disgusting behaviour by its members. The Catholic church was moving priests from one church to another to hide their sins. The highest member of that church in this country now lives in a cell. Guess what he is still an ordained member of that church.

What is this thread going to achieve besides making enemies amongst Forumers?

Yep. I have very strong opinions on this matter.... and I can't think of one thing that would be achieved by expressing them.

@Masterton
What is achieved by expressing any opinion on this forum?
Other than Maguire scrutinising the 'Signing Suggestions and Rumours' thread in detail for ideas.
