does anyone else get annoyed at seeing players throwing or kicking the ball away when there has been a knock on/ forward pass etc… to try to slow the game down?

Players will even sometimes throw the ball away from an opposing player who is coming to get it. This is obviously within the rules but isnt a very good sign of sportsmanship.

I know this will get alot of people fired up but i moved from sydney to country victoria a few years ago and have sinced watch alot of AFL and they have a few things in their game which i think the NRL could look at adopting....

#1\. when a free kick is awarded to the opposing team, if you have the ball you must kick, throw, pass the ball directly to the team that has been awarded the free kick. If this doesnt happen then it is a 50m penalty. A normal penalty would do in the NRL.

#2\. when a goal is kicked or the ball is out of play the clock stops and restarts again when the game is restarted. id like to see the clock stop when there is a try, a drop out or when the ball is kicked into touch in general play.... so much time gets wasted when players take their time for a line drop out(i know they have a time limit but still...) and just strolling to a scrum. The referee stops the clock when one side packs their scrum so why cant it be done all the time?

Something id like to see that isnt in the either code is if the referee deems an incident worthy of going on report then maybe that player gets 5mins in the sin bin?
I dont think its fair that the team the infringment occurs against is only awarded a penalty but if the infringing player is suspended then the opposing team next week benefits aswell. A good example is the spear tackle on inglis. all souths got was a penalty, where the next few teams that play the bulldogs dont have to face krisnan inu......

sorry if these have been covered in other posts........

Rubbish… I would never hand the ball over to the opposition so they can get a quick restart etc. I'm not a fan of throwing the ball away, but there is no way in hell would I pass the ball to them.

Next you will want them to have scones at halftime with each other...

As for being placed on report, half the incidents dont even attract charges from the review panel. Penalising a team with a sin-bin for a nothing report is totally unfair. The Sin Bin is able to be used for Foul Play or Professional Fouls... If its a serious matter, then the referee's already have the option to use it.

Throwing the ball away already is a penalty.
Well it's supposed to be anyway…it's one of those inconsistent ones that sometimes is given by most of time it's not.

Stopping the clock would be a option to look at adopting.

One thing I can't stand is in the final minute or two when players sluggishly play the ball and lie on the ground to slow down the play. I am embarrassed if any of our players do it.
Finish the game with good sportsmanship - a strong set and good kick out of play will slow down the clock more professionally than looking like a dunce playing the ball.

If you are blatant in throwing the ball away you will be penalised. The trick is to do it straight away making it look like it was done in anger or frustration. I do agree with point 2 though. We must waste 10-15 minutes per game where no Footy is being played. I would prefer 80 minutes of game time and everything else happen off the clock.

The point i was trying to get across is the team that the infringement occured against should get more than just a penalty if an incident goes on report
if an incident has been put on report then some kind of foul play (deemed worse than just requiring a simple penalty) has occurred, how serious does the foul play have to be for a sin binning to happen? Even if it just 5 mins.
A dangerous throw (normally a penatly and placed on report) should attract a harsher penalty than a professional foul (normally a sin binning in theory).

and dont expect players to pick the ball up and hand it to the other team but if you have it and it needs to go the other team, dont throw it or kick it away, just drop it on the ground. it usually occurs from a knock on when a scrum is going to be packed which is never a quick restart anyway.
.

I'd love to see the clock stopped when the ball is out of play (after tries, lead ups to scrums, etc). It irks me when teams waste time.

if every stoppage stopped the clock then the game would go on forever.

How about this -

keep the interchange at 10,

and how about this comprimise: Make the last 5 minutes of each half real time. (i.e - stop the clock on every stoppage) This will stop teams trying to run the game dead, or "just see out the half"
