Thurston

Hes the best in the world, He gave benji a lesson tonite

He's off contract, if we arent looking to even just talk with him…let alone try and sign him, then the club isnt serious.

Too true, Ink, but I reckon it will be hard to get him to leave North Queensland. He has unfinished business with them - an NRL Premiership.

His partner really wants to stay up north Ink (whther that means north of the border or in NQ I'm unsure )

I'd swap him with Benji in a heart beat

Yep so would i , but we have no chance for Thurston IMO … simply can't afford him .
How many players over the last 2 years have we gotten rid of ? just to stay under the cap.....

Someone will afford him, you make room for a player like this
Why cant we afford him but someone else can?

Panthers are really the only NSW based team making a legitimate play for him, and they can only do that because they just freed up well over a million in their cap by dumping Gordon/Lewis/Jennings.

None of them are anything close to being considered marquee.

And you can only spend your cap on 25 players so it really doesn't matter how many they signed, what matters is how much cap space was freed up by moving Jennings/Gordon/Lewis on.

I hear the Dogs and souths are interested too…I guess we arent serious

Defeatist attitudes are the backbone of this club, its endemic at times

Being "interested" and actually making a play for him are two different things.

I don't care if Tigers don't make a song and dance over Thurston, acting like we are all defeatist if we don't agree is small minded.

We can just continue to purchase other clubs rejects

I think if we dont look interested in the best, then why would the best be interested in us?

Can't imagine any marquee player would overlook a club because they failed to show interest in someone like Thurston.

In some ways constantly showing interest in every top player off contract would hurt a club. Look at Parra, they were linked to all the top players off contract, I know many of their fans found it an embarrassment when it was all for naught.

Ye I see the marquee players knocking our door down, 3 in 13 years…my heads spinning

Its always the future, successful clubs are looking to now
The best will have come and gone by then.
Its a 'second best' attitude imo

Agreed.
We should have chased GI when he was on the market just as we should chase JT now. If that means parting ways with a couple of 'home grown' lads…so be it.

I would be all for it,,,, But I just cant see this happening.

IMHO, WT shall keep and develop our NYC players, and forget expensive "band aids" like GI, JT, TW etc.
WT strategic direction shall be players like Tedessco, Sironen, Fotuaika, Brown, Paasi, Naiyaravoro, Santi, Lovett, Moses, Brooks, Cherrington etc.

Go Tigers
