Taniela Tuiaki has been given extra time to recover from his ankle injury.
WESTS Tigers star winger Taniela Tuiaki has had his NRL round one return torpedoed, with the powerful flyer's broken ankle taking longer than expected to respond to treatment.

With concern still simmering over whether Tuiaki will return to top speed after the injury, **Tigers officials have opted to give him until at least round four to recover after doctors pinned his tibia and fibula together.**
The cult figure winger with the gold-capped teeth has been struggling for flexion in the ankle, with Tigers physio Andrew Leeds working daily on the injury.

A certainty for the Kiwi Four Nations squad last November, Tuiaki had his representative comeback shattered when he broke his ankle against the Eels.

The Tuiaki setback opens the door for a number of rookie Tigers to grab hold of the vacant wing spot, with Beau Ryan favoured to start on the other flank.

Heres hoping Tui comes back before round 4 cause the guy needs a little more luck on his side. He has worked hard in the off season and deserves a bit of a break (excuse the pun!).

Meanwhile, with the young guns getting a sniff of a chance in the run on side, it will stir up a whole heap of competition on the training paddock which can only convert to good things for WT on the field come season start.

Come on Tui, can't wait to see you rampaging down that wing again this year.

With TNT recovering a bit slower than hoped, and Ryan favorite for one wing spot, this opens up the other for someone such as Pritchard, Brown or Daniela. Hopefully all 3 are given a go during the trials. Brown has size on his side but Pritchard and Daniela might have a bit more speed. My money is on Pritchard going off reports on how he has come along during off-season training.

Thank you for that info re Taniela ! We all wish Taniela a "speedy" return to the side. I'm sure it has been a very difficult time for the big man, but no use coming back too soon, but I'm sure everyone is working round the clock to get him fit again.

if it takes longer for him to recover in order to return to top gear take as much time as he wants i would think. id like to see daniela get the spot on the other wing just for his speed. before his injury he used to be as fast as jennings..not sure if he is still as fast though. or if TNT is a shoe in to return no matter what id have tupou there just so that when he returns the playing style of that wing wouldnt have changed at all.

Doesn't always work that way. I just wouldn't be expecting him to play wing.

Well that's a big blow but it's better he doesn't come back too early and get injured again. Atleast we have plenty of depth for the wing.

take back my other smart remark..i see where your coming from now…id love to see them on the wing together but only if they are both as fast as they have formerly been..we need some gun speed on ryans wing..ryan and ayshford arent known for their speed which is why we should put someone like daniela or pritchard ( taking tomcats word for it )

Tame wont be on the wing.. he will be last inline for that position.. only if they have exhausted all the other possbilities will he get a shot there..
