Before you get yourself more in a twist, the true points are that:

(a) An independent review will take a long time to award, conduct and present - too long to result in an effective head coach decision for 2022

(b) Clubs do internal reviews all the time and there's no reason why this one has to be any different - any other clubs having external independent appointments to review season 2021?

(c) The club isn't mandated to do an independent review by any stakeholder or charter, it's their own decision

(d) Even if there is an independent review, the review goes confidentially back to 100% non-independent assessors (the board). If they are being accused of sweeping things under the carpet with an internal-only review, they wouldn't do any different with the findings of an independent review.

(e) If Tim Sheens is involved, you can argue he is independent as a brand new employee with no recent history at the club. Same as Phil Gould did review work for Panthers, Warriors and now Bulldogs, whilst under their employment.

That's nice my point is the board Pascoe or hartigan aren't being reviewed so what will change

Who said Pascoe and Hartigan aren't being reviewed? Lee only said it would be internal staff doing the review. The Board may be reviewing Pascoe themselves, in fact I would bet they already do that ever year.

Well because it’s says in numerous places they are the ones doing the review along with their mate Adam. Judging off the media slaughter of the tigers over the last few months, I’d say those 2 consider themselves bulletproof

100% correct. The media has jumped on the fact that Pascoe is doing the review. WELL SO HE SHOULD BE, ITS HIS JOB AS CEO !!!

What they fail to tell you because it doesn't fit their agenda is that Pascoe himself, as CEO does get, and IS getting reviewed by the Chairman and Board.

But hey, that doesn't sell papers.......

It would be great to have bomber back at WTs with Sheens providing guidance as necessary. IMO he did well at the Sharks under difficult circumstances and has WT DNA.

Morris is bog average so can confirm he has the WT DNA.

The sun has gone down over the yard arm and it's time for a glass of port. I looked in the cupboard and there is a very nice Morris of Rutherglen Tawny Port. I hope it is a good omen.

Wow....this got downvoted. Some tough judges of a Port on here

I recommend trying Curtis Rare 30 year Barrel Aged Old Tawny Port.
You can get it on special for $60 a bottle (normally $100) ... worth every cent.
I'll be having a few drops to get me through the review and the off season.

Are these guys just making decisions off their own bat? Why is the future of the club in the hands of a bunch of rando real estate agents and a failed rockstar (and Danny Stapleton)?

Does it say anywhere that nobody is reviewing Pascoe and Hartigan? It's fine for me if Pascoe and Hartigan are reviewing football operations, i.e. training, roster and on-field, and then someone else can review Pascoe and Hartigan, like the Board.

Marshall Backs Sheens’ Return, Reveals Reason Tigers Cannot Attract Marquee Players
Sporting News 1 day ago

Tim Sheens’ return as the Wests Tigers’ head of football performance is a good move but management must uncover why they cannot attract marquee talent to the club. That’s the opinion of club legend Benji Marshall after the Tigers launched an internal review of their dismal 2021 NRL campaign.

Michael Maguire’s side finished a disappointing 13th on the NRL ladder after a disastrous 38-0 loss to wooden-spooners Canterbury on Sunday. It is the 10th straight season, and third under Maguire, that the Tigers have missed the finals.

Sheens, who coached the Tigers to the 2005 NRL title, is scheduled to commence his front office role in the coming weeks after signing on with the club in June.Marshall, who played under Sheens for 10 seasons, stopped short of declaring his former boss should replace Maguire as coach but said the 70-year-old’s return to Tigers headquarters is a step in the right direction.“I think it’s a really good move for a few reasons,” Marshall told Fox League’s NRL 360 when asked about Sheens’ impending return to the Tigers.

“Tim’s really good with juniors and development and teaching them the basics and bringing young guys through, I know that firsthand.“But also, he’s overlooked a system before where he’s signed new players and got the Tigers out of a similar position back in 2003 when he started and won a competition in 2005.“I think for the Tigers the big thing is they need to decide what’s stopping them from attracting players.“Is it just the fact that they haven’t had success or is there a disconnect between players not wanting to go there because if you look at teams like the Bulldogs, they haven’t had success, but they’ve been able to sign a lot of good players and (create) a vision for players to come to.“And I think for the Tigers they need to find out what that vision is and try and make it a place where people want to go as well.”

The Tigers have made a play for several marquee players including Latrell Mitchell, Josh Addo-Carr, Tevita Pangai Junior and Dale Finucane in recent seasons but have failed to lure any big-name talent.
Marshall, who was cut loose by the Tigers at the end of the 2020 season, added when asked to speculate on why players are unwilling to sign with the club he played 257 games for.

“I haven’t spoken to anyone specifically who was thinking of going there but just from the outside looking in there’s obviously a lot of media pressure around the Tigers, a lot of things get reported and just at the moment it seems like it’s not a happy place,” he said.“And players, I think the good ones, want to go to a place where they can see a vision or they can see a line that the club’s going to take that they might want to be a part of. “But at the moment the Tigers seem to have a lot of negativity around it and they need to find a way to get around it.”

Meanewhile, Paul Green's decision to step down as Queensland Maroons coach has sparked suggestions he could be set to replace Maguire at Concord.

I respect Sheens, but worth noting he was sacked as coach of Hull KR due to poor form and 'loss of the dressing room', and then the next year he resigned from Widnes due to falling out with management.

Wow the optics on this are bad.

I think the narrative needs to turn around and it be seen for what it is. its a fantastic opportunity for the RIGHT individual. It didn't work for Michael Maguire. Acknowledge it and move on.

Lets put things into context.

There is an opportunity for a Head Coach to lead one of the most popular teams in the NRL. There are only ever 16 roles available at any given time and those roles don't necessarily come up regularly.

The new coach walks into a state of the art training facility

The new coach has significant salary cap to spend

The Tigers have an elite group of youngsters coming through

The Tigers fans are so desperate for success that any improvement will be celebrated

If you're someone like Cameron Ciraldo, surely you'd jump at the opportunity. Are you likely to get a chance at Penrith anytime soon? You have a pre-existing relationship with the Tigers Club Captain, as well as a couple of the younger players and you have a mentor in Tim Sheens.

Now all of that might not be absolutely on the money, but that's the way it should be sold!

Red Rugby - where have you been?

I don’t know much about alcohol as I rarely drink but I have a bottle of tawny port that was opened in early 2018 with a small amount used for cooking. Would it be safe to drink it now? It’s been stored in a pantry. It didn’t have a cork just a normal bottle top.

It seems all coaches go through lean periods these days and loose the dressing room bar say Bellamy and maybe Bennett at some stage. Probably happens because young people these days especially stars are too entitled and precious.

Probably a good thing Sheens will sit above Maguire and perhaps a little remote to the senior playing group so even if Maguire "looses the dressing room" there's still a "headmaster " in the background.

I thought it was probably on topic. Biggest concern was the port and what vintage....
How else would you conduct a review

It’s becoming a drama at the Tigers heard an interesting radio byte with Michelle Bishop confirming non responsiveness of our front office in player signings, not returning calls etc. also stated 2 key players said they would leave if Madge went. I think is was on SEN. Sge is very rarely wrong.

Too many people have said the same things. I doubt it’s a media beat up. It sounds like we are out of our depth in the front office and it’s become a media leaking witch hunt to protect people’s backsides.

What a surprise.

Benji is a cling on.

Wouldn't say a word if he got his extension.
