Tigers could face ground controversy

probably will be held at sfs

but if it was at LO i really couldnt imagine any other outcome than a tigers victory no matter who we play. imagine the atmosphere!!

It should be at the SFS. The atmosphere there can be better than that at Leichhardt Oval when there is a large crowd. The semi final against Dragons at the SFS in 2005 had a better atmosphere than any game at Leichhardt Oval that I have ever been to. I think this so-called advantage by playing at Leichhardt Oval is a little bit over-rated and is more of a feel good story than truth. It didn't seem to help Balmain much in the 90's did it. We might not even make the top 4 anyway. We haven't made the finals since 2005\. Don't lock fans out if we get a home final. There's no reason why it should be at Leichhardt Oval over Campbelltown Stadium anyway. If the game is at Leichhardt Oval or Campbelltown Stadium then almost half of the supporters will be unhappy. If we make the top 4 I hope the Wests Tigers don't ruin what is meant to be a happy occasion for the club by choosing to have the home final at Campbelltown Stadium or Leichhardt Oval. I think I did hear that the NRL are allowed to say no to smaller venues hosting home finals now.

Professional sports attract corporate dollars, and they will expect to be accommodated first and foremost. They pay top dollar to put their product on our jersey or fencing and therefore they deserve maximum exposure in return.

In addition, and I've said it numerous times now, I don't think we should be locking any fans out. There would still be a percentage of the crowd who don't actually support either team but have a "soft spot" instead. Just because you don't follow either side, doesn't mean you should be denied from watching a cracking game of finals footy, and that even applies if you're one of those token idiots you see at EVERY game wearing a Souths jersey.

Correct if wrong… Doesn't all revenue from the finals series go directly to NRL???

If that's the case the any advantage to the top 4 clubs is a parochial crowd.

Maybe try any game in the history of the sport.

100% correct, in particular the feel good comments on playing at Leichhardt Oval. Discussion over.

In 1999 I think Balmain were 7/11 at home and 0/11 away!!! But yeah I take your point that playing at LO is not the sure fire win people (mostly in the press) would have you believe. They've played some shockers there in the past couple of years.

REAL FAIR DINKUM 'Wests Tigers' fans will turn up to where ever the club plays, should it make the Top 4\. Simple as that

Just for once - once- Id like to see this ''club'' put whats best for this team first, as the players have stated….a semi at one of our REAL home grounds.
When it all boils down to it, and every little incidental is wiped away, finishing top 4 = home semi. keyword _home_.
Stuff the fans, tstuff the corporates, stuff the $$$$...look after team first!
Its only one week.
Wont happen tho as we know

I tend to think if they do look after the players and give them a rightful home ground advantage in the long run it would be helping the fans, administration, sponsors. Success breeds success, the club just needs a little more foresight at times. Having said that I have no clue about what financial incentives there are available for playing at SFS.

I am from the Wests side of the fence and live near Campbelltown, but I'd be happy to have a semi at Leichhardt. A great advantage.

Agree 100%. If we are in any finals match I will be there no matter where it is played.

As a person that now lives closer to Campbelltown but was born in Balmain I would love to see it at Leichhardt. Being a season ticket holder i am sure I would be able to purchase a ticket. A home semi at Leichhardt would intimidate the officials and the other team. I think it is our best home ground advantage.

i think its discusting that they even go near leichhardt oval its to small and to hard to get too

Then don't go, simple as that. Sorry but if you are a Wests Tigers fan you would go anywhere where your team was playing especially a semi final.
I love going to Leichhardt, it takes a bit of planning and maybe a good walk to the ground and from it, but hey you dont have to do it every week.

1.> It's "disgusting" not "discusting"

2.> Balmain and Wests died 10 years ago. It's Wests Tigers. If you want to wear your black and white beanie, go watch NSW Cup.

I am sorry but at what point did he insinuate that this was wests v balmain. All he did was point out that the ground is too small and inconvenient for some.

Your the one that needs the blinkers removed.

I know what you are saying and understand the loyalty you are implying, but the club should display its loyalty to its fans by providing a suitable and comfortable venue for fans and sponsors. It is the fans and sponsors who pay for everything outside of player wages so they deserve the right to enjoy a home semi final in comfort.

20,000+ at Leichhardt is not comfortable as the ground is clearly not geared for this crowd level. I certainly don't enjoy being squeezed onto a hill and unable to get to the toilets or get a drink due to the crowd. From a crowd comfort, crowd capacity and corporate capacity perspective, the ranking amongst the grounds would be:

1\. SFS
2\. Campbelltown
3\. Leichhardt

In saying that, cracking first post by Magpie bev. Very funny. Wasn't there another thread of people being annoyed by baiting????

Bev is entitled to an opinion.
Bogan you summed up the arguement pretty well here. Wests and Balmain died 10 years ago so why do we play any games at Leichhardt. That's Balmains home ground. if you want to watch football at Leichhardt go watch NSW Cup there.
You said it!

SFS is the only option.

It accomodates the most corporate clients and is a completely seated venue with a higher capacity than almost our traditional home grounds combined. What a non issue.

The real issue is whether we are able to keep it up and earn a home semi. Horse goes before the cart
