Tigers leagues?

So I was in Sydney for a few days and decided to go for a drive through tiger town today(balmain,Roselle, leichardt, lillyfeild) pretty sad to see tigers abandoned and trashed the way it is. Also I know it's the offseason but I saw stuff all tiger fan fare like bumper stickers or flags getting around, I even saw a guy in a bloody sea eagles shirt.
Where is tigers now? Or is it just wests out at cambo?
I know we are the wests tigers but I would of thought that area of Sydney would still be tiger heartland.
You Sydney guys might think this is a petty thread but it's a long drive back to brissy and I'm bored.

Theres probable no GREENS in those areas chasing and hating everything Tigers.

Ah I see thanks foe clearing that up for me ink.
I'm going to have to get down to a leichardt game this year seeing as the tigers are once again not coming to Brisbane this year.
I've been to cambo a few times as I have relo's in penrith but I never get to leichardt.

I think looks can be deceiving Brisbane Tiger. I lived in Leichhardt for a while in the mid-2000s and there is an extremely high level of Tigers support in the inner-west. Remember it is January - it's not too unreasonable there wouldn't be much happening or that some dude would be wearing a Manly jumper. They did win the premiership and if you or I were a Tigers fan living on the Northern Beaches you'd probably highlight your support if we were reigning premiers!

Anyway the support might not be as obvious but I can tell you there is a very passionate support base in Leichhardt, Lilyfield, Rozelle etc. Sometimes you need to get off the main roads to see it but visit a pub on game day/night and you'll get an idea!

BT you know its perfectly legal to run a person in a Manly jersey over in OUR territory

Well if it isn't it should be

Sadly it would never be approved. The demographics of the area wouldnt allow it. The state seat and council are in power with the greens who are usually anti land development and usually anti government funding of professional sporting clubs.

Yep. If the council were on board Victoria Road would be a construction site right now. Jamie Parker is a major road block to anything like this.

As others have pointed out, it's quiet at the moment but if you were on foot up and down Darling Street/Balmain Road and down into Leichhardt you can definitely tell whose turf you're on. Lots of shops and pubs have memorabilia on the walls, there's normally black and orange bunting up across Darling Street in Rozelle and there are various businesses with name connections (there's a Tigers Laundry in Rozelle, for instance). To be honest, given how gentrified Balmain is I actually think it's quite impressive that there's still so much recognition of the club (albeit more in commercial premises than the yuppie housing that surrounds!)

I'd also heartily recommend coming down for a game especially if you never have before - and I'd also suggest making sure you have at least some time before and after in the area. As previous posts of mine may have hinted, I'm English by birth (moved to Balmain in 2006 now live even closer in Lilyfield) and the local area before and after games at Leichhardt is the closest I've seen in Australia to what I consider 'real' fan culture. Lots of people walking to the ground down back streets, various nearby pubs all packed with fans before and after and the definite feeling that there is an event going on. So far from the Homebush turn up, park, watch the game and f- off atmosphere 'enjoyed' by those losers at Souths that it shouldn't be considered the same experience, quite frankly.

2041,

That's what I wanted to hear, brisbane really goes off on game days and I want the same experience but from a tigers perspective like in cambo. What's a good hotel or motel to Stay at???

I'm afraid I don't know - while I've certainly kicked on after games on more than one occasion it's never got quite so bad that my wife's not allowed me back in the house

But as you'll have seen you're barely a $20 cab ride from the CBD and there are a million buses up Victoria Road if you're really on a budget, so anywhere you're happy to stay in Sydney is pretty accessible. As for specific recommendations, though, I'll leave that for others to comment.

I think 2041 has it right. There really isn't anything in terms of hotels (the sleeping kind) around there. Might be some B&Bs but that's not my area of expertise. The city or Broadway/Darling Harbour/Pyrmont are good bets especially if you can get something near the light rail.
If you're flying out the next morning you could probably get yourself over to an airport hotel for a reasonable cab fare too.

The Leagues Club will never eventuate whilst the Greens are in power. And taking into account the voting trends of the now locals, it will never happen.

Liberals scored the most votes in the latest State Election, a HUGE shift in voting intentions.
Greens only got in because Labor sent their preferences to Jamie Parker
