Tigers looking to sign Israel falou

Why would we want someone who is big strong fast and can break the line and can out leap anyone, if we were going to pay Marshall 800000 and piss tedesco and reddy off, I would be doing anything to make it happen. Genuine superstar

For that kind of money he has to play at fullback, needs to get his hands on the pill as much as can. We really struggle to make meters from the start of our sets. He would be like Inglis, make great meters at the start of the set for the forwards to play off.

Yeah the price wouldn't worry me. What would worry is that this would basically put us straight back into the postion of this season. Not so sure it's the way to go. Surely the way to go is to attract a couple of good quality first graders, the calibre of guys like Uate, Glenn Stewart, Chambers or Taufua. Guys like that are good standard first graders who wouldn't hurt our cap too much and would be upgrades on current players.

I reckon he's worth it. Getting rid of Benji, Blair, Lote and Lawrence would free up a ton of money. I don't think Lawrence has it any more, and Folau would be a good marketing tool to cover the loss of Benji. Makes sense in my books

yea we lose one marque player get another makes sense i guess. I heard somewhere that he is enjoying union but would rather play league. if he does come to us he needs to play fullback where he does in union. you saw with inglis in origin he had nowhere near as much impact playing centre as he did for the bunnies playing fullback

So is Falou going to play Front row ?

We are second last because our forwards don't dominate and our half can't direct us around the paddock.

^^ this ^^

Forwards are our problem… Props that run over opposition defences and backrowers who just don't turn up, but offer something in attack.

Until then, we wont have much to offer ANY halfback or a speedy backline.

On Falou - $4M over 4 Years is the right price!

Irvine is right. we need good forwards before more backs.

Would any forward be as beneficial to our team as Folau would?
No.
Heck, even if Shane Webcke was in his prime I would still take Folau.

I'll explain:
For 2014 we have Galloway, Woods and Tapau who already make-up our big boppers. Add Fulton, Anasta, Blair (to an extent) and Siro and we have a penetrating, skillful second row (albeit a bit light-on). IMO ours are the kind of forwards that we would want to recruit (if they had a bit of form). So for mine, if you combine them with Sue, Buchanan, Spence and Ava coming through I just don't see how we need more forwards.
Thus, the argument that we need to recruit more forwards over backs is getting tiresome and baseless. We just need forwards that have a bit of form and the only way they will gain that is by believing that the backs will be able to capitalize on their go-forward. That is what will make them better and give them the confidence to play like they are expected to. Perhaps going for one (the likes of Taumololo, Lillyman or Papalii) but seriously one more solid role-playing forward is enough. We already have enough "good" ones to nurture and there just aren't too many excellent, consistent one's going around.

We need a dynamic back like Folau (who can play FB or centre) or a half to compliment the young halves coming through. Those are the only areas where I would consider spending serious dough.

Conclusion: Folau is far-and-away the best proposition that is going to come round for years so if there is even a miniscule chance of getting him we need to grab that and go hard like a bloody pitbull. End of!

Youre doing the same creative writing course as the OP, arent you?

I think there's no debate over whether we could use him. Of course we could. We'd be freaking nuts to say no. However i'm mindful of the current Salary cap issues we have and wouldn't mind us playing the transfer market a little more shrewd. Especially as the time will come in 2 years or so where we'll be looking to hopefully tie up the likes of our current youngsters once more.

I see bigsirro's point, but we could use a dynamic backrower, doesn't have to be a superstar, but a guy like Dwyer was,Joel Thompson would have done but he is gone, there isn't much left, maybe Ciraldo or Bolton for a year with an option in our favour, hole runners with size.

i would love us to sign someone like robbie rochow or joel edwards- make the attacking team sh!t their pants when running at them

Taking Webcke over Folau…..that was a big statement. Maybe too big. Fair enough.

I do honestly think Folau could be anything. IMO he is like a new athletic version of Meninga. (Don't pass me back the joint just yet....)

Anyway, this is all probably moot but which forward would you take currently instead of Folau? There are only a select few forwards who would prove to be be more beneficial. Yes, players like Bolton, Lillyman, Papalii would be good additions, but to take them over Folau? That's crazy talk!
Isn't it plainly obvious that Folau is in another class of player entirely?

(You can pass it back now.....)

All this from a thread started from smoking gunge the insider that knows it all but keeps getting it wrong? Please

Agree 100% has smoking gunge ever got anything correct? It's obvious he trolls various forums and claims to be ITK (in the know)

We are up against not only rugby who want him to resign at any cost but the likes of the Chooks and the Dogs. This signing would be a 100 to 1 chance. Although the club is smart enough to know they need a marque signing for 2014 to generate interest and that in turn sells memberships and merchandising.
