Tigers Miller on Gold Coasts Radar

AUDITIONS begin today for the vacant Titans No. 7 jersey but there could be a surprise bolter, with the Gold Coast ramping up their bid to snare Tigers youngster Jacob Miller.

Titans coach John Cartwright will today get his first look at how his 2013 squad is shaping up and who the leading candidates will be to replace former skipper and halfback Scott Prince.

Prince was released by the club last week to sign a two-year deal with the Brisbane Broncos, leaving the Gold Coast without a standout halfback.

Jordan Rankin, Beau Henry and new signing Albert Kelly will get the chance to stake their claims for the No.7 jersey, while five-eighth Aidan Sezer is also another option to shift into Prince's empty shoes.

But Mullumbimby product Miller is shaping as another candidate.

The Titans have room to move in the salary cap after releasing Prince, Dominique Peyroux (New Zealand) and Brenton Lawrence (Manly) last week.

They don't have enough cash to convince Trent Hodkinson to leave the Bulldogs but they are assessing their options with Panthers youngster Harry Siejka also on their radar.

Brad Murray, the young Eels playmaker embroiled in the Ryan Tandy betting scandal, has also been floated to the Titans.

Murray spent time with Tweed Heads last pre-season before heading back to Sydney.

The halfback conundrum is going to dominate preseason headlines but fullback William Zillman yesterday backed Sezer to make the transition if needed.

"I've got all the confidence in Aidan," Zillman said.

"He's quite a threat because he's got a good kicking game, running game and is also very skilful.

"After having basically all of last year in the halves, he would have picked up a lot of things from Princey and how the team works.

"I'm sure he would slot in there no problems at all."

Prince will be unveiled in Broncos colours today, with the Titans also searching for a new skipper. Zillman, who has been touted as a future captain of the club, said he was shocked to see Prince leave.

"It was a big shock to me," he said. "It's a loss for the club but it's one of those things we need to move on from and look towards next year. I'm sure the boys will do that.

"Any player would love to captain their club. It'd be one of the highest honours you can achieve. I'm just happy that my name is in the mix. Whatever happens, happens."

Missing from the early parts of the preseason will be Australian representatives Nate Myles and Greg Bird, while Ashley Harrison (groin), Luke O'Dwyer (ankle) and Luke Bailey (achilles) are recovering from surgery.

I would suggest you direct your emotions at the Tigers for being stupid enough to release him if this occurred. Can hardly blame the Titans for taking advantage of stupidity

This is a story based on the Gold Coast, potter has already stated he is in his plans and under contract, wouldn't stress.

This is more a wish list!

No they haven't released him , Titans are more hoping they can get him and they might be able to in 2014 when he is of contract with the Tigers cause he is a Mullub boy Which works in the Titans favour , but hopefully he has a ripper of a year with us and chooses to stay with us after next year …

If he does leave it is not a problem…

6\. Mulachy
7\. Marshall

or

6\. Sironen
7\. Marshall

Marshall can help Mulachy develop.

Mulcahy is not playing first grade this year, maybe never. Just not big enough. He's also only played 4 games at 5/8.

Far more likely to see Benj stay at 6 and Anasta or Moltzen play there.

So the article lists Miller as a candidate with zero quotes or sources and goes on to name several other potential halfbacks?

With Potter already on the record stating he sees Miller as part of our future, and no release will be granted, I don't think we need to worry for 2013.

Sorry dude, thats a double no from me. Marshal plays half again in 2013, we miss the finals. Lock it in.

To be honest, it wouldn't be a major problem if he left in 2014 I don't think. We have Brooks coming though the system who Andrew Johns rates as the best young halfback in the country. Give him a year in the NYC after some off-season with the NRL boys to bulk up and Brooks will be ready to go Rd 1 2014.

Mulcahy has played six or so NYC games, only started a few of them and is half the size of Hodgo. He's not even close to first grade yet.

Maybe Miller wants to go the Titans ??

Much for the same reason Laffranchi left ,closer to home , prefers the lifestyle

This story keeps popping up for a reason

Don't be surprised to see Luke Brooks pushing for a first grade spot in 2013\. Good enough = old enough and he is very, very good. He will cut NYC to shreds and people will be pushing for him the moment Miller or whomever is in the seven has a shaky game.

Just wondering about Brooks' age? Do you know if he will be 18 next year?

Sounds like Luke Brooks is to become the first twelve year old to push for a State of Origin berth.

Exciting times watching footy from the cloud cuckoo stand …

Seriously, just let the kid run around in the 20s for five minutes before throwing him to the Wolves (no, not Windsor).

From what I've heard, it's the combination with Moses that makes Brooks lethal. If this is true, I'd look to bring both into first grade together for the post-Benji era. That's just me though
