TIGERS Rozelle Development

I'm sick of this NIMBY attitude. We have it my area which is renowned for freestanding and duplex houses with the odd smattering of townhouses. They've just developed two huge unit blocks around the corner from my place and the outrage has been outstanding, it's only going to get worse with the new airport. It's progress… Get used to it.

I'm sick of it too CB and I live in the area…

The NIMBY's will have to get used to towers as there will definitely be a lot of 12+ story plus towers down in the Bays precinct once it gets going.

I would love to see Leichhardt council use my rates, work with Harry T and give one of their blocks of land to the Tigers for a new club with Harry doing the development for free. But they'll have to wait till after default to do that. There's a solid spot down near the water, behind the boathouse where they are just parking trucks on at the moment.

So much potential for something good to be built there.

The NIMBY's whinge and whine about a lot. Yet they still own a car :crazy , which utilise fossil fuels, for power. :unamused:

If you don't like living in the area, go live in a cave, and use lantana for your blankets. :bulb:

I think this was all fully expected. Best thing for the Balmain Football Club is to let the Leagues Club die and take its debt with it. Maybe give the developer and the Council a few black eyes in the process.

I know people are talking about Harry buying out the Balmain Club etc etc. and offering some financial stability in the short term, well my preferred outcome would be for Wests Ashfield to buy Balmain out. The purchase price would simply be the debt Balmain owes to the NRL.

Change their name from Wests Ashfield to Wests Tigers (i.e. Wests Tigers owning the Wests Tigers), rebrand the Leagues Club at Ashfield, and form one identity going forward. This coupled with the move to a single home ground, single reserve grade and Toyota cup sides, and hey presto, we have something that actually resembles a united Footy Club!

Not counting on it to happen, but hey we can all dream.

Totally agree with this, Balmain Leagues is gone, even if they got new premises, how long would it be before they would contribute to the JV, Wests have the money and obviously the business nous to be a worthy owner of the JV and as a former Balmain supporter now WestTigers supporter can't wait for it to happen.

This is sure to get a few feathers ruffled…..

The state government will consider building a new train line between Bankstown and Liverpool as part of plans for a new $10 billion-plus metro link in Sydney.
>
It has also committed to six new metro stations for Crows Nest, Victoria Cross in North Sydney, Barangaroo, Martin Place, Pitt Street and Central.
>
However, the government has yet to decide whether the metro line will run via a train station at Waterloo, in the inner-south, or one at Sydney University...........................

The Rozelle Village proposal could go ahead on the basis that it not allot car spaces or parking in street. With no cars they would not add to congestion which is the main gripe. They may not earn so much money but also would not be spending so much drilling miles down to create them. They could only fighting over number of floors then.

Instead of underground parking have underground club, that would give them a few extra floors on top for units, that mean no height problems anymore and plenty of units for tonnes of money.

I should be given free 2016 membership for that tip

So where do the residents and club patrons put their cars?
There is already no parking on Vic Rd…street parking (what minimal there is in the area) would account for .5% of what were dealing with.

We will have teleporting up and running by the time it's built…no need for cars at all.....simple

I got the idea because now some apartment blocks in Sydney are going carparkless when everything is close at hand and/or good public transport. They take public transport just coz cars nearly impossible in many cases. Look how Mal Turnbull boasted about his favourite buses. The Olympic Games in Sydney were based completely on public transport.

The NIMBYs can stick their NO CSG sticker on their bum instead of back windscreens. I love when able to get away without having a car, save tonnes as well. As long as there is a supermarket closeby all is okay. Surely there are buses regularly up and down Victoria Road. Have a stop right outside the club.

But if Ms Garlick is correct about Balmainites not playing the One Arm Bandits any longer well could still be problems.

I'm sure the Balmain Leagues Club would be happy to sign you up as a Member. They also offer Free Coffee with every $10 Spend on the Pokies

Surely Town Planning wouldnt approve a development without excess parking space to help the local precinct?

I always wondered if there was a legal footing for Balmain Leagues to take to the State government for this shambles. There mustn't be because they'd have long done it by now.

Tiger Watto, I have another post just above yours. I know a large apartment applied for approval with no parking in Sydney on the basis that would actually limit cars coming into Sydney, that the residents would not own cars. In Greenie Balmain they should love the idea of no cars, they may not want the club but hard to argue against if no cars and no extra height.

Another callous way of looking at is that the poker machine addicts are usually too broke for a car anyway. I pity them actually.

Forget the membership etc I want a free WT jersey.

Great idea - they could put parking on level 10.11 and 12.

Cars with a view - charge twice as much for parking.

Am I right in saying when this deadline comes up in a couple of weeks where Rozelle Village can go ahead without the Leagues Club then Tigers will be free to look elsewhere to build the club? I reckon they would have a better chance of getting approved somewhere in Canada Bay Council area.

That's not an idea, it's a brain explosion!

They already have crazy FSR ratios, height limits, overpass requirements, have to fit in a clubhouse for free and 15 years overdue with interest…

City apartments work because they can be executive rentals for out of towners and there is decent public transport connections. That ain't the case for Rozelle. It's bus, bus or a bus... and there is no supermarket close by, one was actually planned in this development which will also go real well without cars.

You should go work for the leichhardt council with "ideas" like that BBF!

In related Rozelle news - some more great "Ideas" coming from the council itself. Can't find a home for the Tigers, but can for thousands of others.

You are correct Sabre. End of Nov I think.

Re: Relocation. They still have debt tied to Rozelle village mate, would be tough. They don't have the funds to build.

But I personally can't see any other way out besides default and rebrand as a new entity. Maybe sourcing funds from a private partner like Harry T (what he is potentially waiting for)

The flicker of hope I can see in relation to Harry T is that unless you are Souths, Easts, Manly or the Bulldogs money from sponsors is pretty heavily scrutinised. Now that Harry isn't major sponsor there many be room for him to have a say about developing a Leagues Club.
