Tigers' Simon Dwyer refusing to quit NRL

I might be swimming against the tide here, but I'd like the media to leave him alone and I'd like him to stop talking to the media. By his own admission he is HOPING to get out of the sling by the end of the year. There is NO hope of him playing footy next year.

He is incredibly brave and determined and that is to be admired, but the reality is there and he should (as I am sure he is) just knuckle down to his rehab in order to have a happy healthy life and not set up artificial and unrealistic targets on a public stage that are only likely to set him back.

Hate to see him come back and get hurt again - if he does get on the field I hope he's 100% ok to do so and it's not to prove a point to himself.
Good luck to him anyway - what a great attitude and determination he portrays.

I think it was Fittler himself who came up with it.

Apparently Freddy struck up a friendship with Simon after his injury.

Freddie gave him the biggest rap on last nights ''The game plan"….

I'd love to meet the guy, he sounds just so positive and inspirational....with an attitude like his he can go such a long way and help so many people....he has a very bright future 100% fit or not.

DWYER THRILLED AT CITY COACHING JOB

Simon Dwyer jumped at the chance to be involved in the City Origin coaching set up when he was asked by Coach Brad Fittler recently.

After playing such a dominant role for City on the playing field this time last year, Dwyer will now get the opportunity to join forces with childhood hero, Fittler, to plot Country Origin’s downfall when the two teams met again in Mudgee this Sunday.

Dwyer explained that he’ll be doing a lot of video work for Fittler as well as running some video sessions in the lead up to the game.

“Working with Freddie will definitely give me some experience and see a better side of the game. Having the Tigers boy around just makes it that little bit more comfortable for me too,” he said.

Fittler emphasised the importance of getting Dwyer back in the set up again this year, seeing as though he was one of City’s best players in Albury last year.

“I contacted him this year because I wanted him to be a part of our set up again. Hopefully he takes a few things back to his coaching job at Wests Tigers from the week,” Fittler said.

Since suffering some severe nerve damage to his right arm during a match in June last year, Dwyer has kept himself busy with his video analyst role at Wests Tigers as well as fitting in rehab sessions and regular visits to see specialists.

It’s been a whirlwind time for the 23 year old who has kept a positive outlook throughout.

“It’s good staying around the game. I get to see the boys every day as well so I’m pretty happy with that.

“I am still hopeful that I’ll get back on the field one day. The doctors have said that everything is on track at the moment. It’s just a slow process and I’ve got to stay patient.

“I’ll keep working as hard as I can. There’s no doubt about that,” he said.
Dwyer saw his specialist two weeks ago and is pleased to report that he now has a bit of movement back in his injured right arm.

“They are still looking to get my shoulder back into place in about three months and I’ll hopefully have some bicep function by then too.

“I’d just like to thank all the fans for not forgetting about me and helping me get through this tough time.”

But for now, he remains focused on helping Fittler and the City Origin side this week.

“Hopefully we’ll come away with the result,” he said.

There will not e a dry eye in the Stadium that Simon Dwyer makes his re-debut at… I hope they give him the heighno treatment - banner and all - even if its an away game..

Then there won't be a dry eye on the forums when Bonstonker crafts a video detailing the epic return of Dwyer.

Gee there'd have to be a movie and/or book in it! What a story it would be!!

fantastic news! hopefully he can get most movement back by the end of the year and starting training for 2013 back by 2014!

not to put a dour on things, just curious as i have no knowledge of this field.

How long/or will someone ever mentally recover from this to be able to play NRL again. If he plays again im sure he's gonna be hesitant to put his shoulder in?

If he can do it, it would be the greatest comeback in Australian sporting history..
Regardless, his determination is so inspiring

Judging from the way Simon has conducted himself I'd say if he's physical able to play it will be more a matter of holding him back than him being hesitant. I reckon he'd be champing at the bit.
