TIGERS TEAM TO PLAY WOLVES IN NSW CUP

Fletch needs to break up his halves combination to limp through the injury crisis until his key players return. Until he acknowledges this, BRET will likely continue to lose more games before the season ends.

Needs to focus on where he still has plenty of depth and lack of.
Lacks a gun fullback with the injury of Meaney. Lazarus IS the next best option at fullback!! Utilise this!!

WOLVES BEAT TIGERS 24-12 IN NSW CUP

A disappointing second half performance saw Balmain Ryde Eastwood Tigers suffer a 24-12 loss to Windsor Wolves in round 20 of the NSW Cup at Leichhardt Oval today.

The Tigers enjoyed a wealth of posession in the first half to lead 12-0 at half-time through tries to hooker Jarred Farlow and centre Willie Mataka. Half-back Blake Lazarus kicked both goals.

It was a different story in the second half with Windsor running in consecutive tries to second-rower Daniel Penese (55th min), full-back Ali Beale (59th min), half-back Craig Trindall (64th min), winger Zoran Watene (75th min) and Watene (77th min) again to record a 12 point victory.

Tigers Coach Paul Fletcher would be far from happy with his side switching off in the second half against a Wolves side who seemed to find plenty of open space.

The loss leaves the Tigers in second place on 30 points.

Meanwhile, Western Suburbs Magpies recorded a 26-20 victory over Centra Coast today at Morrie Breen Oval today in the NSW Cup.

Disappointing loss for Balmain today, they played the better football in the first half and led 12-0 but really fell asleep in the second half, they came out flat after halftime and never recovered. Rhys Curran was good once again, Nicholls had some good moments but he and Lazo were a bit quiet overall. Gower and Lane were both good, and both Schirnack brothers tried hard. David Fifita was pretty strong and had a go today although Fletch probably kept him out there a little too long in the second half as he tired and became a liability around the ruck in the final 10 minutes. Poor old Tame was ordinary again and just isn't fully trusting his knee from the look of it. He stopped when he hit the line in attack, and defensively he is slow to shift laterally and just looks a bit tentative and lazy at times.

Absolutley rubbish performance from a team who look like they are carrying the attitude that they can just turn up to a game and win without any real effort put in.

As a team a truly gutless display where they rolled over like a dog who had been beaten for a week.

The inside shoulder difence from the pigs was deplorable, Mataka's lazy play in the centres was uttrly pathetic and Matt Ryan switched off at half time. Until that point he had shut Trindall down and as such controlled Windsors attack. He came out after half time like he had already finished the job and got shown up accordingly.

Our halves looked like two guys who had just met each other on game day and had no confidence in each other or in their individual ability.

There was zero talk from Cowan at the back or if there was some it was sporadic and not assertive enough.

Tame is utterly useless at this stage, Gower seems to put in when it suits him of late and Fifita just does not have the match fitness to keep up with the pace.

What summed up how truly lacking in character the side was yesterday was that after we had a pass intercepted off our line break the majority of the side just hung their heads. Earlier in the season the first instinct would have been to turn and chase the break regardless of if they could have stopped it. Now the first reaction is to lament and have a pity party.

I thought Latu, Al Schirnck, Farlow & Curran were guys who put in a solid effort but it takes more than three players to get a win.

It is like since we belted the Bulldogs the cruise control has been on in some players minds. You would think last week would have woken them up but unfortunatley the injury list makes it too easy to make excuses. Even the fans of the side are guilty of making excuses.

The time for excuses has to end. The few players who put in every single week for every minute they are on the field have every right to be utterly filthy at the rest of the squad for capitulating as they did to a pretty bog ordinary Wolves side. The sad thing is if Windsor took less stupid options they would have put another 20 points on us at least. Which is in reality what the team deserved.

Time to wake up and show some courage and determination. Players who wonder why they are not getting a call up need to get a copy of yesterdays game have a good long look at their performance and the answers should become pretty bloody obvious.

The side are going close to what I thought they were incapable of doing. Bringing shame to the jersey.

The Centurions are a hungry side, they proved that when we first played them. If they do not switch on next week and play for their pride and th guy next to them they should consider not bothering for the rest of the season

I've noticed this for a while now. The halves combination although looks great on paper, it is not working as well as many would think. It was working much better when Taumata was playing one side of the ruck as a ballrunning half and Lazarus on the other as the ballplaying half. Nicholls is a ballplayer also and this can be a concern with no real assertive attack to take on the line close in the pockets behind the play the ball area. Without Carr for the past few weeks also contributes to this which does not help BRET's roll-on effect.
Also with the addition of Nicholls, it seems the authority of the playmaking has been divided between both halves as opposed to one dominant half and one who plays off that.
Poor linespeed has been an ongoing issue for a long, long time now and should be maintained by any side for 80mins. Anything less will invite the opposition's half to exploit this. Watch where BRET meet their opposition at point of contact, they will usually give the other side 6-7m boil which tends to burn themselves out on continually retreating the 10m.
The boys should have taken a lot out of the Bulldogs match the week before and realise that the reason why the likes of Paea and Roberts played first grade this week was because BRET played them into a 1st grade jersey!!
More ticker and less self preservation is what is required, Without Bennett and Meaney leading by example with their brutal runs, some of the others can't seem to take charge and fill this role in their absence.
Huihahau is one of the noteable shining lights who is really having a strong agressive dig at the line in returning the ball.

Wow….I'm impressed...not 1 mention of the man in Pink....

He was a srandout I thought....

He made some terrible calls.

But in retrospect it doesn't matter.

When a team leaves it's pride elsewhere things like injuries, bounce of the ball and reff calls mean absolutley zero. I was focussing on the reffs decisions at the game but in reality he was the least of our worries.

The fact that the squad consisted of our entire fit roster yesterday is not even an excuse. Billy Callaway played injured but that doesn't excuse the team dynamic and the mental rot that seems to be setting in.

Their minds seemed more focussed on how they were going to spend their Saturday night than it was on the final 40 of football
