The trouble with the whinging sooks who undermine the coach and leak to the media (I'm not going to speculate who) is their attitude ends up infecting the whole team.

A guy like Lucy comes and joins us, with a really positive attitude, gets along with everyone, trains the house down, puts in on the field, is so positive about the future here that he encourages his brother to join the team as well.

And then how must he feel when he realises he's surrounded by bludgers who moan about how terrible it is that they get dropped after playing like a drunken 5 year old with chronic back pain.

Not only do the bludging whingers play poorly themselves, but they can also dampen the enthusiasm of the good guys like Lucy.

It's a very contagious disease at WTs, can even kill (careers). Hopefully Madge is the vaccine.

Some of you guys and girls are a lot smarter than me in this day and age of contracts and agreements, but the sooner that performance indicators and stats are taken into account of individuals players on very high deals, the better things will go as far as playing to your worth...eg if your on 750,000 a year then after game stats should be looked at and if there is a constant lower input for that player over say 2/3 games then a clause should be in his contract where deductions can be made for non performance of contractual agreement barring injury....

I know this is way out there but we have geniuses out there that could work something out legally where the
player is held accountable week in week out for their performance value to the club...

this is only a suggestion that I hope we can discuss sensibly...

Well if the players had the same passion as the forum members we would certainly be a Top 8 side.

All we ask for is some pride in the Jersey and when things are tough show some resolve like us.

Lets work on our defense in the last 10 minutes of the 1st half and show some resolve that seems to be the common trend we match the better sides for 30 minutes then fall apart most weeks.

How can any player of any club have "pride in the jersey" when halfway through a season they don't know if they'll be at the club they did their preseason with?

This idea of pride in the jersey died a long time ago, fans have pride in the Jersey, Players don't

I'm going to disagree with a lot of the posts here and say that this is a red flag for the club.

The days of coaches ruling with fear and an iron fist ended about 20 years ago.

Coaching these days is as much about managing player egos and managing with a leadership group of senior players and coaching staff.

This isn't my opinion. This is the opinion of blokes like Bellamy, Bennett and Meninga.

It sounds like Madge has lost the group a bit, which from reports was what happened to him at Souths. You'd think if he had a solid leadership group, it would have identified this problem before it reached the stand-off stage.....

***The body language of the guys over the past month reminded me a bit of the dark days of JT before he was cut loose. Really not playing for the coach.***

i don't profess to have a solution. Like everyone, I'm embarrassed at some of the efforts from the team. But at the same time, we're very unlikely to attract good enough talent to have a significantly improved roster for 2021.

In what way are these days any brighter?

I can spot on speculate:

Jrey & packer leading the chorus

My money is on Brooks in the background - far more destructive.

My money and the whispers I am hearing is it is that player that I like least and wish wasnt in the team

Does it rhyme with Shosh Deynolds?

Yep definitely..........

Of course I have zero idea, just making the point that everyone is going to speculate based on their bias. The Brooks haters will say its Brooks, Packer haters will say its Packer and intelligent people who truly understand Rugba leeg and psychology will know that it is in fact JR. Probably a couple will even speculate that its Jennings.

Apparently Jennings went running to the media but pulled his hamstring on the way

A smart guy like Madge would have known right from the get go the limitations of the squad he inherited from Cleary. His public support of these guys is nothing unusual. There's no way he would not want his players to believe they were capable of making the semis even if he knew they were a long shot at best. The upcoming clean out will cost us in time and money and won't be a happy time for anyone but it has to happen and it has to start now.

Here's a tip Brent, if we didn't have journalists cultivating relationships with players, this wouldn't be a story. What is said in the dressing room should stay there.

So Kent had Brooks telling Madge he doesn't like the way he coaches so Madge said try it my way..but know Pooper has Brooks in the background too scared to say anything..

OK

The silent coachslayer - 4 down and counting !
I don't know who is behind it but you would have your Brooks blinkers on if you disregarded him as not being somehow involved. If there is one player who looks like he is playing on eggshells it's him.

That sure is some resilience..

Resilience or escaped being the fall guy? Not so sure anymore. But still if he is picked this week hope he steps up and has blinder. That would be resilience - no excuses just play well.

Marshall and Farah have a lot to answer for. They were founders of the boys club and not knowing their place. That culture filtered down to the young players who are now senior players. And now they are passing that same mentality down to the next generation.

As much as I dislike Scam Smith, I still give credit to the guy. He's a shrewd operator and ultra-competitive and as such, expects his team to match it with him.
Same with Thurston... Love that guy, had the ability to win a game himself, and quite often dragged his players up to his level. His leadership was the best in recent memory for me. Scam and Thursty know what it takes to win a game and would kick their players arses for not stepping up and following that formula. Seldom would they dish it out and not put in the level if expectation they demanded themselves. Like Michael Jordan, in the heat of battle, they don't care about feelings...they want to win and if you can't nut up then step off.
When I read Harry G's comment in an interview saying Q-cup had nothing more to offer him, I got the sense that Scams influence was in their somewhere. That primal strength that's needed to stare down others and challenge for, not just the right to lead, but command enough respect that they'll follow his lead. It showed in Harry right from the outset, he looked absolutely comfortable, not in awe of being there, but knowing he could, and would have an influence in the game, and backed his ability to do it.
I love Nof, the never-say-die attitude. The absolutely filthy and scathing look in his eyes when someone stuffs up. When he stuffs up, he doubles his efforts to make it up to the team. I don't know if he's Capt material, but his undeniable passion for this club is more of what we need in a Capt. and throughout the ranks.

One of Maguires biggest problems with this crew is that the very people brought here as experienced leaders, (Ivans Albatross) are some of the biggest duds with contracts that mean they are here for the long term. He has to try to motivate young guns with the albatross brigade sitting back enjoying their unearned loot. A certain format for a toxic workplace.

The best predictor of future behaviour is past behaviour.

Media siding with the coach is a good thing. Less pressure on the club to do something stupid and sack him

Actually excited this comes up, this can be the biggest call the Tigers will make along time.
Our culture stinks and will take the overhaul of all the senior players to start fixing it.

The other gaping hole in the players story is madge doesn't seem like the guy that will drop you for dropping the ball, you get dropped for not putting effort in.

Everyone can have a stinker, effort comes from within.

The media is the issue! Inserting itself as though it has some role.

Should pay every player in the 30 a salary less 20% say but then include match payments that only 17 of the 30 can receive at any time that week to round out our cap. Add a finals incentive for the entire squad. That should get them performing to their best.

I would agree with Kent, we don't seem to have much exciting in the world of player development compared to 2005-2015 etc. Not sure the reason why, but we have seem to hit an uninspiring point of our young guns. Maybe just bad luck, not much crop coming through last few years.
