Maybe they should introduce performance based contracts.

Yeah sure, will give you the money you think you’re worth not a problem, but you have to hit your required KPI’s for each NRL season other wise you don’t get the full amount...That would solve a lot of overinflated egos. And would also stop player managers manipulating the system of over pricing.

Theoretically, I'm with you @Tigerlily.

But I can't see the players union accepting what they would interpret as constraints.

Let me begin by saying that I am as disappointed and frustrated as anyone with another season of failure.

However it was interesting reading people’s reaction to the story. Lots of emotion as fans and this is expected but in all reality for the players, this is their workplace. Now just imagine this is your workplace and your supervisor had everyone fearful of being sacked - it would be expected that there would be a complaint or escalation.

If this is true, the fact this was leaked (and my guess is a player)indicates a fair amount of disharmony with some players. If Madge has lost some of the playing group as this story implies then It has been my observation that as soon as the media note a “lost dressing room” then coaches start dusting off their CV.

I fear this will end badly - my guess is another media frenzy that will make us even a less desirable destination. An ugly player or coaching departure(s) that will be bypassed by the the caliber of player we need to turn things around.

I actually find you've made a valid point but that it highlights the two problem areas(in our current situation) and it also puts into context why there's been no improvement - as it has also defined the team's development and club's overall success.
1) There's a poor club culture - with lack of leadership the key issue and
2) There's an underlying victim mentality within the group.

Since Madge shared his vision, regardless of any constraints, he's been uncompromised in his postion to build effort, performance and standards.
For this, he strikes me as the only leader for the team and the latest media reports reflect nothing but a disruptive group.
But in saying that, how do we go forward with this?
It's obviously not as simple as getting rid of (some of/most of) the playing group.
Does the club's management now step in to help protect Madge and bring in additional services to help relieve some of the pressure on him? Such as sports psychologists.
I also don't wish to see this end badly.

FYI someone on the WTF also made mention that Gray(?) oversees Madge's training and coaching methods and if there are issues with them the club prevents it from further happening. So I don't believe he's overtraining them based on that.

Well if the players had the same passion as the forum members we would certainly be a Top 8 side.

All we ask for is some pride in the Jersey and when things are tough show some resolve like us.

Lets work on our defense in the last 10 minutes of the 1st half and show some resolve that seems to be the common trend we match the better sides for 30 minutes then fall apart most weeks.

How can any player of any club have "pride in the jersey" when halfway through a season they don't know if they'll be at the club they did their preseason with?

This idea of pride in the jersey died a long time ago, fans have pride in the Jersey, Players don't

Really so they don't have a contract that finishes at season end.

100% worth a listen. Thought he spoke well in regards to wanting the club to be known for aggression/hard edge/physical and seems like he really loves to work hard, holding himself and the team to high standards. Seemed genuine enough. Need everyone to buy in however

Seriously I’ve never known a team with such an inverse ratio between performance and public talking. Some of them are pretty quick to complain about the coaching and yet here we go closing on a decade with no finals football. I’d be happy for Maguire to release anyone who doesn’t like accountability or hard work they can jog on.
