Tigers to sacrifice $100K for Leichhardt farewell

If in fact LO will have had three and Cambo 0...really not very FD air and maybe an indication the clubs looking at one home ground soon though they'd be too dopey for that smart move ( we'd not have this crap to start with)
Hopefully we can cost the Eels a top. 4 spot... How good would that be

I think them dropping out of the top 4 is a genuine possibility. They’re goorrnnee

Tigers fans here: "Waaaaaa...the club didnt handle Benji's ending properly and respectfully...."

Tigers : We are moving Benji's last game to Leichhardt at some cost to make a spectacle of it and we will play Benji despite the fact that he is not worthy of a spot in the team.

Tigers fans here: "Waaaaaa.....Campbelltown......"

You might want to go back through my posts. I got no problem in the way they handled his exit.

I didnt mention you or anyone specifically GNR, but many here have been (go through the posts). Of course if it fits peoples prior biases it will be used as an example which is not actually meant as a criticism, more a comment on human nature.

There’s only been 2 or 3 people in this thread vocally against taking the game to LO. One of them I’ve rarely seen before, and one is me. And I know I never criticised the club about how they handled Marshall’s exit. I actually defended it.

Doesn't my vote count GNR

Why didn't the brainiacs that make the decisions at this club see that Benji would want a send off and plan the last game at Leichhardt ...thus not losing 100 k ....Doh

A much deserved tribute to a couple of real club legends. Where better to end Benji and Rowdy's Wests Tigers playing careers than at LO!

Again don’t think anyone is against the move to LO just would’ve preferred Campbelltown as it hasn’t got a game with crowds all season

**The club always loves to use Leichhardt for things like this though. Every big game and important milestone always seems to end up there while Campbelltown gets the scraps.**

OK admittedly I have been going to LO for a long time and love the place, but I really dont think its a conspiracy, nor do I think that LO is "better" than CSS. IMO it is just a much easier sell to the media and the neutral public as a "Spectacle" or an event. LO isnt better than CSS but it does have the heritage/nostalgia aspect to the image that CSS doesnt have and accordingly is easier to sell as "Boutique". Plus obviously closer to inner city & inner west. For mine its simply marketing.

I agree it’s definitely marketing. It’s seen as the spiritual home ground of Tigers and fans love going there so of course fans will attend. When Campbelltown gets good games like bulldogs vs tigers last year there was a good 15,000 people there and it was great. Unfortunately they always seem to get less favourable games crowd wise.

End of the day I’d love to have 6 home games at each. 3 at each simply isn’t enough but the club is still contracted to play at bankwest/ANZ

LO also gets the out of town teams, often NQ. It actually makes sense for mine. If there is a chance of drawing 20K+, go to a stadium and make $$$, if there is going to be less than $20K, use LO or CSS.

The corporate facilities aren't there at the local grounds to make enough $$$. It's not an option unless the stadiums are redeveloped and some big corporates move in. Typically you'll also need more sports than just the one to draw the big names.

Leichhardt will never get to that point, but potentially cambo will at some stage.

For the moment, I think the split we have is the right approach. I know we're all calling out for 1 ground, but if we do that, it's going to have to be ANZ or WSS and eliminate Leichhardt and Cambo. Which I don't think is good for our base.

I hope the decision for Benji and Lawry's last game was determined by them and I hope we make up for the media leak.

We make more money/lose less money at CSS & LO for crowds between 10k - 20K.

What difference does it make to the WT if more sports do or dont play at CSS or LO when we are not there? We dont own the grounds. A League have been playing out of LO.

Agreed, it works from a fanbase and $$$ point of view. Dont see the need to change. I dont see how the "we need one ground" chorus helps.

The annoying part is this was originally scheduled to be a Ctown game when the new draw came out. There would be just as much uproar if there was a perception that a Leichhardt game was being taken off by Ctown. The Rowdy thing is equally ridiculous. Taking his farewell game to Leichhardt would be like taking Farah’s farewell game to Ctown.

Think Rowdy would prefer Leichhardt myself.

You asked him, did you?

Mate - That is my opinion - am I not entitled to it.

I would think I am, just as all the posters who are saying he should be at CSS.

How come you didn't have a go at them????

He may not care, he may want to be at Campbelltown.

Just makes sense to me to play the farewell game at CSS, Benji debuted there and Chris is a Campbelltown junior. There's logic there. Not play at LO because I love the ground.

Probably a moot point anyway since I don't think events can be held at CSS yet.

Dont lose track of the fact that after the Crossroad Pub cluster Campbelltown was "officially" a COVID hotspot and the NRL bubble had to be excluded from there. Im not aware if that has been lifted (Campbelltown is not listed by NSW DoH but from memory it was a QLD Govt designation).

Wasn't the grass also being torn up by all the other games being played on the ground and the NRL decided to move games away from CO from a players safety perspective ?

I don’t know how to say this without triggering someone... We’re playing there because, because, because... it’s TIGERTOWN!!

7500 could say goodbye at BW but only 3200 at LO? Not a great decision in my books

More like 6000 Slimers and 1500 Tigers fans
Great call from management imo

It's our home game. We could have sold tickets via memberships first and blocked the slimers out. But we have a strong history of wasting money and locking fans out.
A feel good story will appease the fans for another year.

C’mon champ
Bankwest is never our home game & Leichhardt is really our spiritual home ground like it or not

Let's move there then. I don't feel we have a home ground at all.

Do you wonder if Tigers may have asked Benji himself where he'd prefer to play his send-off? Your opinion here is almost entirely irrelevant.

Nah, they wouldn't have asked Benji if he wanted the game at the old girl, they just put an article in the paper so Benji could read about it.

Wonder why when they got booed off at half time last time

It was the ref who was booed off not the players Yvonne Sampson made the same blue

Aaahh yes... Down 0-20 after 40 mins and its the ref's fault
Hilarious

That is the norm at Leichhardt games for years now, graveyard, for our team only

Then why say it troll.

I’m no troll. The Tiger footprints are still painted on the pavements of Darling St. Faded from 2005 but still visible. Lighten up sunshine.

I'm starting to think that some get more joy out of being objectionable about the coach, the club, the grounds etc. No wonder the players are whining - its embedded in everything.

The game should not be played at Bankwest anyway. The field is a curse for us. Plus the beer sucks. Iron Jack. No one drinks that.

Seems that way lately. But our winning record there is still above 50%. No other home ground we've used comes close...
