The Tigers might have uncovered another contender for the title of rugby league’s fastest man in unknown winger Allan Fitzgibbon.

Wests Tigers are set to unleash a new contender for the title of rugby league’s fastest man in Saturday’s trial against the Roosters in Camden.
Allan Fitzgibbon might be little known to many fans but he’s impressed those around the club with his incredible pace off the mark after joining on a train and trial deal over the off-season.

New recruit James Roberts is still the fastest at Concord, if not the quickest in the game, and the former Origin flyer has been leaving his new teammates for dead all summer - except for Fitzgibbon, who has been able to keep Roberts honest in the pace stakes.

With a graceful running style to go with his raw speed, Fitzgibbon’s style is reminiscent of Josh Addo-Carr, who also got his start at the Tigers before becoming the game’s best winger after transferring to the Storm.

The Tigers are well stocked for wingers with David Nofoaluma, Asu Kepaoa, Tommy Talau and new recruit Daine Laurie, but Fitzgibbon’s athleticism and ability to beat defenders in the open field make him one to watch in the future.

Fitzgibbon previously played in the lower grades at Penrith, scoring three tries in three Canterbury Cup matches in 2019.

He then spent time in the Australian Rugby Sevens set up later that season before returning to rugby league, playing for Redfern All Blacks in last year’s National Indigenous Rugby League Championship.

Fitzgibbon was crowned the fastest man at the tournament, winning a 100 metre dash in a scorching time of 11.1 seconds.

Both the Tigers and Roosters will use this weekend’s trial to blood youngsters and fringe first graders - only players who appeared in less than 12 NRL games last year are eligible to take the field.

Teenage cross-code phenom Joseph Suaalii has been tipped to make his Roosters debut while the Tricolours are also expected to play another promising youngster in 18-year old halfback Sam Walker.

Depends if they meant full footy gear

You lose probably 3-4 tenths alone running in footy boots to track spikes ( well you did in my day anyway )

Hes got size and pace so could be anything. Let’s hope he gets his attitude and dedication in order to fulfill his potential.

AF has all the physical traits to be a star on the park and a fan favourite.

Beast mode.

Best of luck Al.

I agree mate, the only thing we have to worry about now is if he makes our squad on a permanent basis,he really takes to learning the defensive side of the game and also practises plenty of catching highballs, otherwise he seems set to have a very good career...I hope he does not just for us but for himself and stays fit and healthy..

The kid could be good but I’ve seen so many kids be the greatest trainers and turn out to be ordinary players time will tell

The talk is that he is not the greatest trainer and needs an attitude adjustment if wants to play consistently in the Top grade. Good thing is Club/Players aware and have spoken about it am sure the message has ben passed on.
Was at Tamworth which was a good sign will be offered a spot and agree with prior post 1/16th the price of JAC.

Hopefully Tahu gets in his ear and steers him in the right direction.

A promising young player who i imagine will sign on a Dev or NRL spot but be expected to play NSW cup most of the year.

Keen to see what the next generation can come up with this weekend.
Madden, Simpkin, Laurie, Fitzgibbon are all likely to play this Saturday and chooks have said Walker and Suaalli will be lining up for them. Looking like it could be a belter!

Also 11.1 on grass (possibly without shoes) is rapid.

I'm wishing him the best. He sounds fairly popular as well. Speed helps and he looks the right build for a winger. Could be just what we need.

Nick Campton - do your research for God's sake!

Daine Laurie is a Full-Back and 5/8.

He is NOT a winger.

Russ

It is News Corp so they don't do fact checking just write the article and press send. I am not sure with other sports, however the NRL hacks cannot seem to get their players names or positions correct in a lot of their stories.

AF is going to be a star and cannot wait to see him in FG

Roberts is still the fastest at Concord, if not the quickest in the game, so potentially Fitzgibbon & Roberts on the same side could be just deadly and what we just need
