Tigers want to lock up Sheens before rivals come knocking

with folkes already on board with us it wouldnt be too big a blow if sheens is not re-signed
what i want though is the decision to be made at the start of the season, so the 'uncertainty of next season's coach' drama doesnt affect on field performance

and i would be gutted if lawrence leaves us, throw some meriton apartments at him anything!!

if people watched the interview, the media is blowing it out of proportion,
all he said is he isnt rushing it and that he and Humphreys are happy the way things are going.

Not once did he say he is looking else where and also that he is keen to stay, but the powers above him may have different views.

Media is blowing smoke up peoples A@$#s

**Tim Sheens puts new deal on back burner**
>
Christian Nicolussi From: The Daily Telegraph February 18, 2011 12:00AM
>
TIM Sheens looks set to extend his deal at the Wests Tigers by two years.
>
Sheens and chief executive Stephen Humphreys have met several times to discuss a new deal beyond this season.
>
But Sheens said yesterday he was in no rush to finalise his future and hoped early on-field results would do his talking for him.
>
Though superstar Benji Marshall has publicly urged the club to re-sign Sheens, the coach himself said it was important he continued to have the respect of the players after nearly a decade at the helm.
>
Humphreys said Sheens had complete control of the players and hoped to reach an agreement in good time.
>
"Tim is a man of great experience and integrity and he certainly has the respect of the players and is in full command of the dressing room," Humphreys said.
>
"I wouldn't be advocating a new deal for Tim if I thought otherwise.
>
"Tim and I are in discussion but it hasn't come to any finality at this point. I'll be surprised if we don't get a deal together, but until then there isn't much more that I can add."
>
Sheens, who named a 15-man squad for tomorrow night's trial against Parramatta, said his immediate focus was on a strong start for the Tigers.
>
"Coaching takes care of itself when you're winning," Sheens said. "You always worry about … losing the dressing room but in saying that, if your ideas are fresh and you get a turnover of people who are listening and doing what you want them to do, that's not an issue.
>
"As far as contracts, I've had preliminary talks, both of us [him and Humphreys] are relaxed with where we're at, and there's no pushing to make a decision."
>
Sheens said he had built a wonderful relationship with several players, including Marshall and skipper Robbie Farah, and this was the stage of their careers when they would produce their best.
>
"I think in your mid-20s, 25 and 26, is when you should play you're best footy and enjoy football," Sheens said. "We've built a strong club here, but if it is time for me to move on, sometimes those decisions are made for you. It comes down to performance and my worry is playing good football."
>
Many are tipping big things from the Tigers after they burst back into the finals last year after a five-year hiatus. Sheens, however, could have several players set to enter the Monday night NRL opener against the Bulldogs with no trial form, including Gareth Ellis, and Tim Moltzen, who twisted an ankle last week.

**Sheens puts his head down and dreams of a team worthy of a title**

TIM SHEENS refuses to let speculation about his coaching future distract him from the job of trying to get the Wests Tigers into shape to win the premiership.
>
Reacting to yesterday's Herald story in which Benji Marshall called on the Tigers to re-sign Sheens for as long as the star five-eighth was tied to the club - another five years - Sheens said he appreciated the support but would focus on coaching and let the rest sort itself out.
>
''I don't really like to talk a lot about contract negotiations,'' Sheens said.
>
''I've had talks with the club but for the time being I just want to concentrate on preparing the team, and we've got an important trial game against Parramatta on the weekend. I'm relaxed with where we're at in discussions, and so is the club.''
>
Sheens would prefer to stay with the Tigers, who have great potential over the next few years because most of their best players are at an age where they are about to reach their peak, but if he can't reach an agreement with the club he is bound to become a target for outside offers.
>
Marshall said one of the reasons Sheens was still successful as a coach at 60 was his ability to relate to younger players and move with the times. The coach agreed he had to always remain conscious of the need to ''stay fresh''.
>
Sheens and Marshall have a great relationship, and Sheens said one of the reasons they got on so well was because they were prepared to disagree. ''We've had our blues,'' he said. ''We've locked horns over certain things but we've always come to a resolution.''
>
Although some players are unavailable while they recover from injury, the Tigers have named a strong side to meet Parramatta at Campbelltown Stadium tomorrow night. Marshall, hooker Robbie Farah, centre Chris Lawrence, winger Lote Tuqiri, lock Chris Heighington and prop Keith Galloway are all included.
>
Robert Lui will play halfback for the Tigers, who are missing Bryce Gibbs, Tim Moltzen, Gareth Ellis, Todd Payten and the suspended Liam Fulton.
>
Superstar Eels fullback Jarryd Hayne will also play after overcoming a hamstring problem that restricted him in the early part of the club's off-season preparation.
>
The Tigers named only two reserves but Sheens plans to use a number of other players backing up from trials earlier in the day.
>
Eels coach Stephen Kearney intends to look at a lot of players on the night as well, having named a 25-man squad.

I might just be paranoid but I smell a rat.
It wouldn't surprise me if Tinkler has been in his ear.
Tinkler probably has Bennett on top of his list and , if he misses out on him , he will be throwing gazillions at Sheens
Look whats happening to Snowden. Its started.

I think sheens has the tigers @ heart & will give them last shot @ signing him, & i think he will sign a new contract with the tigers. i have heard lawrence is very happy @ the tigers but i wish he would sign a new contract with us soon.

Heard on the C10 news today that Sheens is still waiting for the Tigers to offer him a new contract….seems like not everyone at the Tigers wants Sheens extended beyond 2011...???

I think its more likely that C10 are incorrect.

Humph and Sheens statements are fairly confident that it is a matter of time.

This situation is very similar to just prior to his 1 year extension last year.

I'm sure he'll extend when the time is right.
If we keep performing like last year I'm fine with that
Currently we have a season to prepare for, and some very important trials.
People and the media read way too much into things

Sheens wont be going anywhere.
He'll stay a tiger till he feels his time is up.
With the recruitment and juniors he has used to build the club he would be silly to leave now before reaping the rewards from his hard work.

I remember the days when some people were screaming to get him punted, oh how times have changed.

So has the brand of football the team is/was playing (last season at least)…see the relevance?

Totally see where you're coming from with that Ink and 100% agreed but you have to realise that during the days when people wanted him punted he was overseeing the development of players such as Galloway, Dwyer, Lui, Fifita and Moltzen then brought in players like Ellis, Brown and Daniella to form the squad we have now. Everything has culminated to what we have now. Would we have had this team with another coach? I guess we'll never know but would you or anyone else want to take that chance now in hindsight?

so who are these rivals that supposedly want him???

as far as im concerned they can have him!!!

GOOD RIDDANCE!!!
