Wests Tigers prop Aaron Woods is in doubt for the opening round of the NRL season after undergoing minor knee surgery on Tuesday.

Woods underwent what coach Michael Potter described as a "grease and oil change" after hyper-extending his knee at training ten days ago.

Tigers medical officials attempted to let the injury heal itself, but soon realised an arthroscope would be the best course of action.

"… it's just tweaked a bit of cartilage," Potter said of the injury.

"He completed a tough rehab session the other day and it looked like he was going to be OK.

"We just let it settle and it didn't quite settle, so it was just `let's just get him in' (for surgery)."

Asked whether he was confident of having Woods - one of the Tigers' best during a disappointing 2012 campaign - back for the round one match against Newcastle on March 11, Potter said:

"I'm hopeful, but if he's not he'll be there (round) two or three."

Happy they made a move on it.

Better to be decisive now and try our depth then let this drag

Good move. Get it done now. Don't let it become a bigger issue later. If he misses games, well we'll get by without him.

Agree. Just glad it's nothing major and he'll be right sooner rather than later.

Now I understand why he is starting a young fella on Saturday. It will be a good gauge seeing how he handles it.

SAME OLD STORY WITH OUR MEDICAL STAFF WAIT AND SEE RATHER THAN BE PRO ACTIVE, LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO ELLIS LAST YEAR OUT FOR MONTHS, IAM SURE WE HAVE THE WORST RECOVERY TIME OF ANY CLUB.ALL MINOR INJURIES GO FROM WEEK, TO WEEKS TO MONTHS.
SHOULD HAVE PUT THE BROOM THROUGH THE MEDICAL STAFF AS WELL WHEN SHEENS WENT.

now you're having a go on the medical team? You a doctor mate? let the PROFESSIONALS who have learnt everything about injuries and healing them let them do their job cause you clearly have no medical experience.

Armchair doctors are just as qualified as tertiary educated doctors. We have watched enough of House, ER, Greys Anatomy and RPA to diagnose and treat our wounded heroes…..........so back off!!!!

Why do you insist on constantly typing everything in caps? it doesn't get your point across any clearer and is just annoying to read

Opens the door for big Jack to maybe get a call up to the starting side for round 1\. Or do you shift Blair to prop?

for ur information i had caps look on and did not want to go back and
re write the thread, nothing to do with my point, and what gives u the right to pull me up on how i write my point, all u ever do it stict it to people who only to make point, iam entitled to have and my on how i see thing and i dont need your permission, so STICT it.

No Gavet, Woods or Groat. Here's your chance to shine potential bench props. Buchanen and the likes. It will be good to get a couple of games under his belt before the real games start, see if he's up to scratch. Good luck to him and lets hope he's a awsome purchase. Step up mate, its time to shine.

Pettybourne probably more likely to start at prop than Blair, he did it a bit for Souths last year and did it well. They speed he runs the ball at means he plays well above his weight
