Tim Grant - Commits till 2018..

I wouldn't mind him staying. A forward pack of:

8\. Packer

9\. Liddle/McIlwrick

10\. Matulino

11\. McQueen

12\. Lawrence

13\. Taylor

14\. Twal

15\. Eisenhuth

16\. Grant

17\. Sue

It would be an improvement on what we have now. I wouldn't be apposed to moving ET to the 12 with Eiso at 13 and Lawrence on the bench. You could also swap out Sue/Grant for another hooker if that's the way Cleary wants to go.

If he leaves we will definitely need to sign another prop, as well as a second rower - I wonder who we might target next? What do people think about Ofahengaue from the Broncos? He's off contract. Shame we missed out on Guerra for a second row spot.

Joe Ofahengaue has re-signed with the Broncos.

I reckon he is decent plus he represents himself and the club well. I think the club though has to think is he worth a 2-3 year contract and on what money.

You forgot Aloiai, I'd have him in place of Sue.

I'd let Tim Grant go defensively is very brittle these days and gets left behind at marker often. We need another prop and the market is light.

He's just about at the end now…. Won't be improving in the next year or two.
We shouldn't offer what he wants

Can't begrudge him for wanting to look after himself with some long term security, but we don't need him.

If that's our bench next year we're rooted. It's just not good enough.

Agree - no huge improvement. Swap Ava and Woods for Packer and Matalino - measuring the minutes that they average each game. No use measuring performance because we will all disagree. McQueen is busted and no sure thing and we are pretty much where we are now.
Still not anything close to being a good enough pack to match it with the likes of the current top teams.
Twal, Eisenhuth, and Aliola will hopefully continue to develop but we are still short of two/ three players imo.

It may have to do until the salary cap is confirmed and teams that have overspent start haemorrhaging players.

I think our pack may improve based on a couple of points:-

1\. Woods flaws mainly slow play the balls not impacting the rest of the pack as much as his offloads benefit the team. Packer/Matulino don't have the same skillset as Woods but I think there is a possibility they work better for the team.
2\. Aloiai, Twal, Eisenhuth hopefully kicking on.
3\. The pack selected may improve. Specifically I think playing ET on the edge will give us 3 edge players - McQueen, Lawrence and ET. Marsters may also play there. That would leave more bigger guys belting it up the middle.

At the same time I think we really need more quality forwards. We need some game breakers in the forwards. Players like Taupau, Crichton, Hess etc are what we need. We aren't going to be able to compete with the top teams in our backline or our pack.

He can leave and it wont bother me
He doesnt make the impact we require him to make on field

gets jolted back every hit up and averages a penalty each game

For a player to put a dent in the defence you have to have all forwards hitting the line hard and playing the ball quickly - something we haven't had for a long time - hopefully with a few hard heads in the pack next year this will change.

I'd offer an extra 2 years. As someone stated earlier, there are not many props up for grabs at present. He's not a starter anymore, but gets the job done from the bench. He's a proven performer and won't be on top tier money.
