Makes me chuckle a bit threads llke these. Woods has stepped up for years at this club. The fact that he hasnt already signed elsewhere is astonishing to me.
Why he would continue to engage with the management astounds me and speaks volumes about him.His game might be a bit off at the moment - do you really need to wonder why?
Rubbish coach hell bent on vendettas ,antiquated facilities , constant dramas, fans that are frustrated and turn on you at the blink of an eye; even his hair style is fair game, a below par roster. Woodsie doesnt need to step up he will be fine - could get a contract at any number of clubs - its about time the club stepped up and his reluctance to sign sends a clear message. In his position who wouldnt do the same?

Tend to agree. And I actually think he's been playing pretty well. It's extremely noticeable when he's not on the field.

Agree x 2\. How much more do some people expect Woods to do?? I'm not religious at all but I think Woods needs St. Jude on his side right about now; St. Jude - Patron Saint of Hope and impossible causes.

I'll answer this seriously.
Firstly, i'd like Woods to offload the ball, even looking to unload the ball is better than not even trying. Puts defenders in two minds.
Lastly, Show some mongrel. For a big guy he is really placid. I doubt he would ever throw a punch in anger.
I'm not saying I want a boofhead thug but show some fight.
Making his 150 metres a game is great for him but has little impact on giving us space.
In fairness, he has zero help.

There is no doubt Woods could do with a partner or two in crime. He can't help it if after he goes off after 30 minutes, we start folding like a pack of cards.

Sometimes you make really astute comments, other times I wonder if you've watched part of the match with your eyes closed.

Woods made 34 offloads in 2014 (12.8% of club total, ranked first in club), 22 offloads in 2015 (10.4%, ranked 3rd in club behind Taupau and Teddy), 26 in 2016 (13.2%, 2nd in club behind Nofo) and 4 so far this year (10.0%, equal 3rd with MCK, behind Nofo and Sue). He consistently averages around 1-2 offloads per game, 10-13% of our total offloads and Top 3 in the club every season.

If you want him to offload even more, ok maybe he can take that on board, but clearly he does it and he does it more than most of our players at a consistent level.

You're not going to change his personality. Maybe could develop an offload but I think he's being judged for not having quality players around him. He is very good at what he does and leads by example. He makes plenty of metres which in theory should allow the "flashier" players to do their stuff.

We now know in his last interview he pretty much said he would not re-sign if JT is going to be coach for the next 3 years. Now that JT is gone he can step up by signing the contract the tigers have in front of him and talking the club up. Would not be suprised one little bit if new coach makes Elijah taylor or Tedesco captain.

That is absolutely not what he said, don't misrepresent his comments.

Thats exactly what he meant and if you dont think so then your living in la la land.

This isn't A Woman's Day, we don't go around assuming what people mean with words they didn't utter. Stop being such a drama queen.

He is gone mate. Must be tough but he aint coming back thank god.

2 things led to his early demise. First the Aaron Woods interview and secondly the thrashings we copped. Thank you so much Woodsy we now know why you hadn't re-signed and what you meant when you said:

"You dont want to waste the next 3 or 4 years of playing footy and not being happy"

Oh yes, that Aaron Woods interview, that was it. The management heard the interview whilst driving home from work, said to themselves "I believe there is a subtext here that Woods is not going to re-sign if Taylor is still head coach, we need a meeting ASAP" and it all went from there.

Damn you interview! Damn you to hell!

Or maybe hearing the club cAptain not backing the coach on tv for the world to see and calling a spade a spade got them into action. Then seeing the players dog it to get rid of JT and boom hes gone. As i said have a lie down , hes gone mate.

So every player in that team played badly deliberately? Wow.

Woods can offload with the best of them. However, watch the tacklers grab hold of his ball carrying arm next time they play. He does really well to get away as much as he does.

I also think that he is not the captain required for this team. Last weekend and the weekend before, he should have been tearing strips off the players behind the goalposts in regard to their performance.

As far as I could see, that did not happen.

I believe players had lost faith in the coach, his game plan and structures and therefore werent giving 100%. Im not saying i agree with that but that's how it looks. Conceeding 100 points in 3 games, averaging over 5 tries a game…. comes down to terrible attitude and commitment. We also look unfit, i hope whoever comes in really gives them a big kick up the behind.

The only thing I'd want Woods to change is sharing the © with someone like Taylor and work on getting to the ground quicker.
On the first point, Woodsy is a great guy to have around the club both in his relationship to the playing group and general affability. He's a character, he loves the place, and is great for media and publicity. Where I think ET could help would be with his utter professionalism and the respect that he has earned comp-wide. Woodsy is undeniably the spiritual leader, but I think ET could lighten his plate a bit in terms of official duties and handling refs and the more serious sides of footy.
Second, Woodsy makes more than enough metres, and the offload stats speak for themselves. He does a heck of a job considering he inevitably has 3 or 4 blokes hanging on his arms looking to shut down the ball. Now that's all well and good, but if even two or three of those 12 metre, plus 3 post-contact chewing up 5 or 6 seconds runs turn in to hit three blokes on the ad line, drop, and play the ball then we'll open up a lot more space.
I think the Gallen comparison is pretty apt, but Gallen seems to fight more on the ground whereas Woodsy just milks (and refs know it). You're a lump of a lad, Aaron. Run hard, sit a bloke on his backside then play the ball, offloads will come.

Bit painful to watch Woods on 360.

Ikin pressed him on what would he would have said if the club came to him regarding re-signing JT for 2018.

Just kept saying thats a hard one to answer.

He has had his say behind the scenes - Didn't rate JT that highly.

It obvious from what has happened in the last week after he danced around it last week

I know this is a repetitive point I have made on numerous topics, but in my opinion, one of the key moves that led to the 2005 Premiership was the move from Mark O'Neill to Scott Prince as captain.

Aaron Woods is NOT a serious captain. His approach, his body language, his conduct are not those of an inspiring captain and leader of a fragile playing group like we have. He needs to be replaced. Perhaps Elijah Taylor is a better option …..I am not sure.

But if the new regime are all about accountability for performance and impact of individuals in the squad, the Woods' impact needs to be evaluated without the (C) symbol next to his name.

100% agree …
Woods hasn't got the smarts to be a captain .

ET certainly leads by example with and without the ball. He'd be perfect.

You are totally off the mark, you don't even realise, I am not much of a JT fan overall. It's the principle I stick up for, the principle of hiring a coach and giving the bloke a proper go before you judge him.

I am totally fine that he is gone.

All your subtext about what footballers mean by the things they do or do not say in a 10 minute interview, the coded and careful words… what a waste of time. You can continue to delve into it, to guess and predict what players mean, but again very easy to be off the mark.

If he had of said "the coach has my backing" and the results and sacking still happened, I for one would have had chuckle.

How many times in any code have we heard a sacking following that comment?

Also I'm not sure how making 150 metres plus in a game is not useful in any way shape or form? The game is about metres, centimetres even.

He is always looking to offload that's why he try's to stay on his feet and get his side or back to the defender to free up the ball carrying arm.

But I do get why some think he may not be captain material but I don't know enough about the playing group to comment.

Hoho T4L were you reading the SMH this arvo by any chance? A few choice quotes from your man Aaron Woods on Sunday night, I didn't hear them live, but they are on record:

"Everyone says we have really good young blokes, but we need to start living up to that hype mate," Woods said on Sunday night.
>
"It doesn't matter who our coach is. **The boys love JT**, so we have to go out there and play our footy. He's not the one going out there and playing. We deserve all the crap we've been getting because it's simply not good enough. We haven't been getting beat by two or four points, we're getting flogged by 30 or 40\. It's not good enough.
>
"And we've scored one try in two weeks – that was from an intercept not a set play. We've lost our mojo in our attack because I think we're trying to score off every play. We need to play a bit more direct and straighter. Our halves have to learn how to control the game. It's not just our halves – it's the nine and the one too. We have to learn how to control a game and that's why we're a bit immature as a squad."

Woods is a very good front rower one of the few first graders on this roster. He is a top 5-10 prop. He needs to run hard and stop backing into the line at half speed.
He used to run for 200 metres a game consistently.

He is not our problem and if we can sign him on 650-700 then he's great.
