Wests Tigers NYC Coach Todd Payten has named his side to take on the Sydney Roosters in the Preliminary Final at ANZ Stadium on Saturday, September 22.
The Roosters have beaten Wests Tigers on both occasions this season but Payten remains confident his chargers can turn things around. The winner will advance to the Grand Final on Sunday, September 30, at ANZ Stadium.
Payten says containing props Kane Evans and Dylan Napa is one of the keys to victory.
“Both guys are big, skillful and confrontational. They also possess smart halves and a terrific fullback in Roger Tuivasa-Sheck who has first grade experience. He also has had a big influence in their last two finals matches,'' Payten said.
“However I'm confident our guys are ready for what lies ahead. A lot of the time these games are won by who wants it more.”
Supporters can receive live scores of the match by following the club on Twitter, @wests_tigers. A match report will be written on weststigers.com.au shortly after the conclusion of the match.

Looking forward to seeing Mulcahy again. Interesting game, we need to stop their forwards getting on a roll.

The only change to the team that beat the Dogs is, Munroe replaces Brad Soe in the centers who had a very poor defensive game & didn't offer much in attack against the Dogs two weeks ago. I tip my hat off to Payten for making a tough but IMO the right call.

He made the right calls going into the finals in benching some under performing "stars".

So Monroe in for Soe. I assume because Soe was defensively poor. Monroe is a big kid, especially for centre. 6 ft 2 and pushing 100 kgs. He's usually a backrower. I like what Payto is doing.

I think that's the key Yoss, both games against them this year their forwards have totally out muscled us. I've been really impressed with Evans & it wouldn't surprise me if he makes his NRL debut next year. Both their front rowers look to offload the ball at every opportunity & we will need to shut them down. Blackwell, Sheck & Rona are their other gun players IMO.

Wests Tigers prop Aaron Woods has offered the Under 20s some sound advice as they head into their Grand Final qualifying match against the Sydney Roosters this Saturday at ANZ Stadium.
Before reaching the top grade Woods came through the Wests Tigers Under 20s system and was lucky enough to play in a Grand final in 2009 when his team narrowly went down to the Melbourne Storm.
Heading into this week’s game Woods said that the team need to appreciate the experience that semi final football brings.
“Just enjoy it. Have no regrets. Don’t come out of the game wishing I should’ve, could’ve or would’ve. Just know that you did everything you could to get your team across the line,” Woods said.
While Woods will be in Port Moresby this Saturday with the rest of the Australian Prime Minister's XIII, he admitted he'll be following the game as best he can.
“I like watching the guys as I’ve had a lot to do with some of them over the years,” he said.
“I grew up with Kyle Lovett who lived down the road from me when we were younger. I love seeing him do well.”
He is also happy for ex team mate, Todd Payten, who has had a great start to his coaching career.
“It’s good to see Toddy go so well but it’s his team also working hard and making him look good too.
“He’s really using his team’s strengths as well as picking out opposition weaknesses so everyone is doing a good job there which is what you want as a team,” he said.

Brodie needs to come in as Mulcahy will be put under immense pressure from the large Roosters side

Hi guys, just recently got back from OS. Is Rudolph injured or dropped? He looked the goods at FB after playing 5/8\. Payten is not light on talent or options

why the hell are we the 1st game?

We were originally scheduled to play on the Friday Night before the Manly Storm game in Melbourne. The NRL got the ok from Fox to move the game to Sydney, and it would be played before the original scheduled NYC Game.

Makes sense smeg.. Watched the bulldogs game last night again and was thinking same thing …U got to applaud Todd's hard decision making with this team over the past 3 games.. Although must admit it is a lot easier dropping an NYC player than an experienced 1st grader

Rudolph was dropped. Strong side named by Payten. He's right though, the Tigers really do need to stop the Roosters front row pairing. They've really bent the Tigers up the middle this year and that has made it easy for them to score some soft tries on the Tigers line. I've got no doubt that if the Tigers control the ball, defend well and win the possession, they can run the Roosters around a bit and score some points.

I'm confident Matt can handle it. He played 1st grade country footy at half last year and bundy cup this year. So he has been playing against some big boppers and hasn't just been confined to junior footy.

Thanks Willow. Wow, good on Payten for making the tough decisions rather then follow our first grade coach in playing out of form players into form. Rudolph will be a better player for it.

For a kid that was told not to expect to play a game in 2012 and to then play 23/24 rounds and finish the season as the competitions top points scorer…... Rudolph has done well, and yes he will definitely be a better player for it!!

On a side note and not sure on the first name of the young roosters prop. Evans?? Was really impressed by him in the semi. Big unit with some serious leg drive, and took 3 or 4 blokes to get him down almost everytime. Looked like a very good young prospect. Not sure of his work through the season at all. But was very impressed watching him play last weekend.
