Toddy Payten

Father time has certainly caught up with Todd, he is not the player he was, I guess the million dollar question is the non football stuff he brings to the team (experience, cool head, effect on other players and all of that) enough to warrant his selection.
TBH Im not sure what is the the right thing to do with Todd, he is not producing but, I reckon he is still contributing in other ways…..tough call either way.

If Fifita or BMM starts playing the house down and demands selection on form, well im all for them coming in for Payten, if no one sticks there hand up, Payten to stay, i think....

That is about how I see it too,if Fifita,BMM or even Begavich are playing better, then maybe its time.

Fifita's form, since he announced he's off to Cronulla, has been very ordinary to say the least….He has potential but little else...a bit like Moltzen....Good luck to both of them as they line up against each other in the NSW cup in 2012...

Hes a good off the bench for the fact it gives an opportunity for highno to take a breather, he goes on for 20 highno plays 60 and hes fresh, last week highno had a little break and he was very explosive in the second half. Yes todd did not make any runs but his D was still decent around the ruck made 14 tackles no missed tackles which is good.

If can keep playing this role its good for the semi for highno and also his experience in the squad, if we carry graot into the semi's I wouldnt also have BMM or begavich or fifita due to lack of experience. keep him there.

Trouble is he is not getting much game time so how can he get match fit, agree he should play acouple of state cup games and get some match fitness.A fit Todd is a must for the semis.

I'm all for trying to get him up for the semis, but to not touch the ball a single time in a match is just unthinkable.

I think his defence is the reason he is in the team. Now,I don't have stats to back that up but surely his defence around the middle is far superior to that of Fifita?

Of course it is, but there are two sides to the game. You can't carry a player who does not touch the ball in attack, has that ever happened before?

No idea HT. Is there a happy medium out there? Fifita is rubbish in defence and Payten lost all his spark in attack. What is the solution?

Begovich….

We might be carrying him just to get him some match fitness HT.

I agree it's putting strain on other players, especially since we only run with a three forward bench.

Whatever the reason is I hope he is out there and carting it up this weekend.

Hopefully Tod will get a bit fitter & kill them, I would rather toddy there then Fifita who just wants to run sideways & not tackle.

Todd deserves to be there IMO…he is just short of a run but will come good...he is just building confidence(he hasnt seen to much football recently) and his versatility is second to none....lets face it we have 3 80 minute backrowers...toddy is a front rower who can play back row also so he is able to give heighno that little break he needs and he can also jump into the front row whilst being a great cover for injury....It is hard to get involved when gareth and liam are dominating right now the way they are...so id be happy to send him on for D only and let the others take care of attack the way they are performing.

I must say Todd is one player i never have any fear about when he plays...i am always confident he wont miss tackles and make silly mistakes.
fifita isn't up to the task....plenty of skill but he runs sideways and drops off tackles all the time

The body is busted and that great football brain has slowed a second. Sheens has been trying to get him up to speed so he can play a role in the finals series and while we are winning its hard to really protest although I would have thought we needed some strong legs for impact rather than the experience that Todd offers

I hate saying bad things about Todd like most of you. In saying that, he's not all there at the moment. The bench is for impact and he hasnt got that at the moment. I assume he is adding to other peoples games mentally in some way cause its not on performance. i didnt notice him at all in the Penrith game till i saw him shaking hands with a pernrith players after the siron.

He will right.A game off being up to speed. You got to remember he has mist a jeep of footy.Toddy will be one of our best in finals.Remember a year ago he saved us against the eels..

For me, I don't care if he is playing busted. It's his final year and from what he has given the club, he deserves to be at least on the bench for the Finals. We can afford to carry him.

Toddy may be struggling, but he won't let us down.

He has had his injury problems and needs time to reach his best. Since he is retiring at the end of the season I'm sure he would want to give his best. I think he is an asset.

Can't disagree with that.

Payten has been a great warrior for us, although his best years are definitely behind him. He can be a good back up for injured players and his experience is good for the youngsters, but to be honest if you watch him lately he is slow around the rucks (probably not 100% injury free or maybe it's his ageing body) so hope he doesn't leave any gaps up the middle for guys like Burt or Hayne to run through.

Sorry I can disagree. That is an absurd statement to make.

Yes he has given plenty to the club but you know what he is more then compensated for that, in fact its his job!!

I am not knocking Todd at all, just this ridiculous statement, we cannot afford to carry anyone if we are going to beat Melbourne, Brisbane etc.

If there are players putting in a bigger effort in the lower grades they should be rewarded over someone who is 'making up the numbers'. I want this team to win another premiership not come 3rd again. In any event if the Tigers win a premiership and he is not selected in the first grade team he still will receive the premiership ring (from memory they give out like 20-25 of the rings now).
