POLICE have arrested two men aged 18 and 20 in relation to the 40-person brawl that tore Merrylands RSL apart in a wild brawl during the India v Pakistan World Cup cricket match last night - and they’ve urged the others to turn themselves in before they are caught.

The two men are in custody and police say they are likely to be charged with riot and affray. They are examining CCTV footage and expect to be able to identify everyone involved in the melee, which saw four people taken to hospital with a range of injuries, promptly.

Inspector Kirby said she had not seen this level of violence at a cricket game viewing before. “I think it’s disappointing that people can’t go out and have a quiet night without resorting to violence,” she said.

there's always been bad blood between india/paki (assuming it's race related)- and not the banter type bad blood like aus/eng.. real tension stuff. quite stupid from all involved- hope the injured get well soon.

If NSW and Qld supporters can sit in the same room and watch SOO games civilly together surely the Indians and Pakistanis fans can do the same

Maybe treat it like a sport contest and not bring religion into it for starters

It is a lot more complicated than simply religion Happy, they only exist as separate countries (and play cricket) because they were colonised.

But the partition occurred AFTER the British had handed control back FG

You have to remember it was at this time Gandhi went on a hunger strike to stop the warring between the Hindu's and Islams

My better half lives around the corner from there, I was there last night we didnt hear anything.
It wouldve taken staff by surprise Im a member at Merrylands RSL and there are very few indians and pakis go there

It has been more than thirty years since I was taught it in History class Happy, but I am pretty sure that the partition of India, and as such the creation of Pakistan, was part of the independence from the British in 1947.

Maybe you can point out otherwise.
