RLPA want TPAs abolish and replaced with what they call "player marketing contracts"

They are independent deals brokered at arm's length from a club. RLPA originally wanted $1m/club, now thats been reduced.

replacing third-party arrangements with a marketing spend that clubs could use to leverage the commercial arrangements they are entering into in terms of player appearances and IP.

They can sell into those sponsorship deals as well as using players more effectively and efficiently to market their club generally speaking

RLPA is seeking a week-long lockdown session with the NRL after the State of Origin decider in an attempt to thrash out a CBA. Current Expires Oct 31.

Next year's NRL competition will be unlikely to go ahead if a compromise isn't reached.

They really should worry about sorting out next years cap before worrying about what they can earn outside of that.

The owners and powerbrokers would advise to their clubs that games MUST continue or the CEOs would be fired. In no uncertain terms coaches would then have similar ultimatums placed upon them. Teams would be picked, with some players perhaps trying to hold out, but the whole playing group en masse would never strike.

No one wants another Super League, the wounds are still healing and it's been 20 years.

This could work and would solve a lot of issues. Though I doubt those in power want it to work, and instead of people cheating at the clubs people would then be cheating at the NRL.

No matter what payment system they use there will still be clubs that will pay additional monies via brown paper bags and under the table deals. Almost impossible to police.

Agreed. I disliked the Jarred Hayne deal. You had a TPA to sponsor a jet page only if he signed with the Titans? Unsure if this was for area marketing purposes or just the titans being sneeky (or Jarred not wanting to go back to Parra..).

Either way it allowed the Titans to overbid Parramatta.

You need a balance between a club keeping their hero's and not having every good player at the one club. Melbourne IMHO should be allowed to keep Smith, Cronk and Slater. Not Ingles when we was a part of them. Somehow you need to place a little pressure, not destroy a club but not break up locals too much.

I don't want to be like soccer where the stars change clubs every 3 seasons. Nor do I want us to see the Broncos, storm make the top 4 every season.

All TPA participants should be registered with the NRL.
They should either be requested to lodge cash up front for the TPA or provide a bank guaranteed for the amount of the TPA this would keep everyone honest and insure the player gets what has been agreed upon.
These TPA agreements have been the greatest rort of all time they can mean the difference between a player signing or not and when they fall over it considered bad luck.
NRL needs to stand up and take control.

The sad irony is that the best thing about rugby league has also always been the players.

What do you do? Call their bluff sure, imagine if they really did strike like has happened in the US. Footballers are extremely lucky that they can earn tremendous salaries simply by putting footballs over a line and tackling people who come near them. At the same time, as lucky as they are, they know fans _want_ to support football, it has meaning, so they can throw their weight around.
