LIVE GAME Trial 1 v Manly

Live Game Discussion
Of the younger crop I thought Dillon, Taipari, Rua showed glimpses (whilst also having deficiencies)

Conversely, Ogden had a mare and William Kei (part of our top 30…) was underwhelming/invisible.

Regarding the players that are meant to be more in touch to first grade. Well, Tuilagi looked good. Peachey, Toa not bad.

I thought Stefano was underwhelming considering the standard he set at the end of last year, albeit not terrible. Tamou, Brooks, Madden all meh.

Let down in the second half with an expeircned pack (Mudgrove, Seyfarth and Simpkins) being a non factor against a manly team of no names (excluding Mower Man and the Turbo3.0). Albeit Simpkins had some good offloads and Seyfarth looked okay in patches.

Lastly Pauga seems like a nice guy but I think I best leave it at that

I thought the first half was good. Peach had some nice, so as luc and Gildart but in the second half the team was useless. Though the first half had some hope for the season, we were on top until nofas disallowed try. Laurie and Hastings and ken will be big in for the next game.

Last season I decided to not let the weekly performance of my team get to me as much and ruin my mood and often my weekend. I rationalised this by understanding that we have a relatively weak squad with too many deficiencies to compete effectively with the top 8 teams. Further, it is evident that our superstar juniors are really no better than any other teams juniors.
So, as this was just a trial game, i refuse to get too concerned or read to much into it. I simply hope we can improve each week on our previous performance.
(I think I’ve almost convinced myself with that.... )

It's going to be a long year man.
it is but but i'm still looking forward to how it will turn out
i still think guys like peachey, hastings and Gildart will be very good for us this year and with laurie back as well
also thought to'a had a really good game and outside letting in that first try Pauga looked ok too

I'm not expecting them to be stars but some people on here seem to think they'll jump Laurie for the fullback spot... they're playing exactly how I expected them to play, glimpses of brilliance with rookie errors.
Well Laurie isn’t even that good. The bar isn’t that high.

Ask yourself the question, do you think our players want to play that style? Is that the style Maguire wants them to play?
I'm under the opinion its a combination of coaching and players lack of ability.

I said in the other thread,
Our issues are quite clear

3 Liddle
2 Brooks
1 Madge

Agree on Seyfarth and Musgrove both were very poor in the second half when they should have been showing the way. Dillon had some nice touches but a lot of poor play to go with it.

It’s only a trial before a long season but jeez they looked like they had just met. I’ll wait to see what they bring next week before pulling the rope out.
Some thing is broken at the club and we are in trouble.

For years we have invested in kids because we have to. OUr Ball & Flegg teams have been very successful for a while, but what is that translating into?

Last year he promoted our "best" kids into first grade. Hoffman, Cini, Pauga and Tuilagi. 3 of the 4 proved they are not first graders.

Tonight showed that our kids are a long way from first grade. Manly's Blacktown boys ran at will. What is happening between Flegg success & first grade. All of us who have played reasonable level of sport know that the gun 15yo do not always transition to success. Are we merely pinning our hopes on the gun 16 yo's whilst other clubs are recognising the late bloomers> Coaching?

Gee, that was disappointing - Brooks looked as clueless as ever!
Madden is as slow as a wet Leichhardt
The only promising youngsters for me were:
Austin Dias, Thomas Freebairn and Joseph Taipari (best)

i dont think any of them were our juniors
Tuilagi we got from melbourne
Pauga isnt young

LEts start being honest. That was garbage.

I cant take anyone seriously talking up these kids. With the possible exception of Dillon, they were completely outclassed up against Blacktowns best. Looked like men against boys. Even Dillon lacks the fundamentals for a first grader. ITs to be expected I guess as they are merely depth for one of the weakest rosters in the comp but Im sick of the hype around these kids, They are still kids and there is a chance they could improve but I doubt it..... Definitely not 🔥🔥🔥

More worrying for me was the plodding that Seyfarth and Musgrove put in in that second half. That was a chance for them to look like first graders up against the Blacktown boys and they looked like Reggies.
There’s more fire in your post than in the bellies of Wests Tigers players. It’s just a soft club from top down.

plenty of room for improvement but unfortunately can't see we have the capability to go anywhere near filling it.....

as per previous years, we're severely undersized.....almost as if our jumper shrinks the body as soon as it's worn.

No love for Rua the nuggety hooker? He could do a good job at lock/hooker post-Peachey/Koro in a few years time depending on other players developments?

Taipari played quite well I thought.
Had a bit of fire to his game.

Madden outplayed Brooks.
Still looked raw and struggled towards the end though.

Gonna be a long year.
Brooks cross field kicks were on point, we just need some decent players to go up and get them. Some of maddens kicks were comical.
