Tristan Hope #293

Solid backup , who can do a job for you . You don’t need him in the 17 each week , you run a utility on the bench , but get him running the reserve grade team with great consistency , to get continuity in that team , and coming up 3-4 times a year . No whinging . No bitching , no “I’m better than everyone”, irrational confidence , just hard work and understanding of thier role in the squad. Chuck a 2 year 350k deal at him , and he’s laughing. Gets enough time to qualify for SL in a couple of years , and get 3-4 years to close out his career. Giving Hayward ample time to develop , and start to push API out in 27/28. That has to be the plan moving forward.

Love this post, was great to get an immediate view of what the squad planning was re TDS. Dollars saved on the hooker back up.

Take out the defensive mistakes of others yesterday and we win by a better margin, views of his game would be much higher for exactly the same performance.

I'm with you @Lestronge

This is a 28yo who is fighting tooth & nail to live his dream as he knows it's his last chance. A hard worker on the field & on the training paddock with 5+ seasons of honing his craft as a dummy half & leader in Cup competition. Ideal backup for Api next season to be NSW Cup captain & share dummyhalf duties with Jared Haywood. We just have to find that bench utility who can relieve Api for 10-15 mins here & there - Bud Sullivan, Siliva Havili et al.
Man , with how quickly Makasini a May are pushing up , AD is looking like he’s on the outer , if he wanted to stay I’d offer him the 14 . Give Mason a year to develop his game , then by 27 he has Haywood are pushing up and shoring up the spine . If Mason was stronger defensively he would be the one . He’s got a good frame on him , and clearly works hard at training and in the gym , but size often doesn’t equal strength , and I think he has a while to go to get his grown man strength Z when he does , Mason will have a mortgage on that 14 jersey .

I don't see him resigning for us next season to play 14. I think with AD wanting to play 6, his performances there the last two games and that he's signed with moses, that the tigers will back him to go to another club.

Geez, people get carried away.
Very very solid in defence. Offers nothing in attack. Doesn’t ask a single question of the defence as he doesn’t run and doesn’t force the defence to make a decision. Zero kicking game. Very hesitant with his passing game at first yesterday but that improved.
Very far from a first grade hooker.
There’s a reason he’s been in QLD Cup for so long.
But….good on him for living the dream.
Let’s just be realistic with his ability level and his value to the team.
All the coach asked for was him to do his Job which I think Hope did really well. His passes out of DH were sharp. With confidence and experience he be able to get better in attack.
And I think the no look pass was brilliant that led to a try
Plus his kick was good too.

Same , but the only team offering him a 6 will be the eels , who I heard are all but signing sandon smith …. And who ? If I was AD I’d take a 1 year with us , and look to get on with the bears . I think that’s his only real answer IMO or SL

This is what kinda gets me with AD...

If he wanted a permanent spot in our side, it was there for the taking.
Instead he has played Warm/Cold since he got here.

He could have siezed a permanent position. Yes he got injured, but by now he could have pushed himself in. He dinnit.

Bye!

Which position do you think could have been his?

We always had a vacancy at Center.
It was always up for grabs, he never took it and wanted to play in the halves.

His best performances this year, bar the easts game have been at Center.

Mason will always be small . But he has the heart of Phar Lap

Hope at 14 does balance the team imo but isn’t a must pick either. I think if bud comes back he is a more versatile 14 though. Works with salary cap aswell
Even roosters are trotting out Zac dockerclay as a bench hooker
I read where South’s want Bud to stay but they want us to continue paying a large proportion of his salary next season, as we are now. I think it’s like 66% but could have that wrong.

After his performance on Sunday, woukd anyone consider starting with Tristan and bringing Api on after 20 minutes? Seems to be a waste of Api’s skills in having him doing a lot of defending early on and burning energy. I’d rather have him fresher and targeting tired forwards.

No
Hope for 5 each side of half for me.

I like the thinking behind this, but the chances of Benji not starting his forwards captain is 0 to none... It would give API and opportunity to create space around the 20min mark when players start to tire...

No. It was 1 game. We just picked Api over TDS.
You don’t start the game against the Warriors with your best hooker on the bench.
