Tristan Hope #293

Geez, people get carried away.
Very very solid in defence. Offers nothing in attack. Doesn’t ask a single question of the defence as he doesn’t run and doesn’t force the defence to make a decision. Zero kicking game. Very hesitant with his passing game at first yesterday but that improved.
Very far from a first grade hooker.
There’s a reason he’s been in QLD Cup for so long.
But….good on him for living the dream.
Let’s just be realistic with his ability level and his value to the team.

He Had a very simple job today.

Good service out of Dummy Half.

Also Zero missed tackles.

Thats great for less than 5 games in first grade.

Well done Tristan Hope

That’s great. Such simple expectations is why we’ve won three wooden spoons. Hardly worth all the praise for meeting such simple expectations is my point. Fine as a third or fourth string hooker. Nothing more.

Not being mindlessly positive.

The reality is it is very hard to rebuild a club with 15 years of failure.

Realistic goals with the talent available.

Tristan will be better for the good showing yesterday

I’m happy with him being our depth.

Cheap. Reliable and will be great for the culture. Not entitled. Works hard for his opportunity and embraces it with his teammates.

Agree … but if it’s a choice of him or Mason for 14 .. give me some Hope … neither are great but at least he can tackle

I dont think anyones getting carried away nor is anyone saying he is our long term #9.

He is a back up for Api and can come off the bench for 20 mins.. all we need is good service and him to defend well.

I know you say he doesn't ask a single question of the defence, but he still put Sione over for a try.. and both Ennis and Benny praised the bloke for his efforts and service.. he does a job... And for 300-400k less than Tallyn I think he provides us with a better outcome - stability.

No look pass to Sione?

He was defintely servicable and has shown development between his last performance in FG and this one. The no looker on the line is straight out of Api's play book so his exposure is showing. He definitely isn't there yet but his experince at KoE and Q Cup levels means that he can hold his own in defence.

The attitude he displayed during his recent interview was first class and he is a player I see as having a postion in our roster as depth and fighting with Haywood for Api's postion once he retires. This is a good position for us to be in right now.

Let him and Haywood push each other and learn from Api.

That no look pass for the try was "textbook Api". Maybe Hope has been happy to sit behind and learn from one of the best to improve as a player.
That willingness is exactly what we need from our depth players.
I wasn't expecting him to be as reliable as he was yesterday. Great game TH!💪

Solid backup , who can do a job for you . You don’t need him in the 17 each week , you run a utility on the bench , but get him running the reserve grade team with great consistency , to get continuity in that team , and coming up 3-4 times a year . No whinging . No bitching , no “I’m better than everyone”, irrational confidence , just hard work and understanding of thier role in the squad. Chuck a 2 year 350k deal at him , and he’s laughing. Gets enough time to qualify for SL in a couple of years , and get 3-4 years to close out his career. Giving Hayward ample time to develop , and start to push API out in 27/28. That has to be the plan moving forward.

I'm with you @Lestronge

This is a 28yo who is fighting tooth & nail to live his dream as he knows it's his last chance. A hard worker on the field & on the training paddock with 5+ seasons of honing his craft as a dummy half & leader in Cup competition. Ideal backup for Api next season to be NSW Cup captain & share dummyhalf duties with Jared Haywood. We just have to find that bench utility who can relieve Api for 10-15 mins here & there - Bud Sullivan, Siliva Havili et al.

Well, lets put it in perspective.

Api out due to concussion protocols and TDS leaves causing the media to go on a feeding frenzy because West Tigers have let the so called future of the club go in favour of their aging club captain, even the supporter base is split on whether the club has made the right decision.

A must win game coming up against the Roosters who are currently in the process of securing a position in the top 8 while the Tigers are desperate, both sides are well down on troops and the Tigers coach under siege from the media, coming off 6 straight losses and trying to avoid a 4th wooden spoon.

In comes what you describe as a 3rd or 4th string hooker who if I recall correctly is on a development contract and not exactly what you would call young at age 28, being asked to play in only his second ever NRL game and coming on as the starting hooker no less.

He plays 64 minutes and is obviously pretty nervous with all the expectations weighing heavy on his shoulders so is a little shaky to start but soon settles in and by most accounts provides excellent service at dummy half, makes 41 tackle with no misses for a 100% tackle efficiency.

Well I don't know what you mean by simple expectations but he certainly exceeded mine, granted he didn't do too much with the ball in hand but I'm pretty sure that with a bit more NRL game time under his belt he may just use his maturity and a calm head to pull out the odd surprise play that the opposition are not expecting.

Not sure about anyone else but I think that Tristan deserves whatever praise he gets after that performance.

Pretty sure that if he can keep it up he may very well be that #14 that we need to give Api that break that he needs over the next couple of years until the next young gun comes through.

His first pass out of dummy half was usually quite good. Very flat, quick and accurate.

Just read Benny Elias said the same thing.

Api has too many options sometimes and his pass out of dummy half isn't always crisp. For too long, he's been the main threat so feels he needs to create something.

I'd almost start Hope for first 20 then bring Api on after.
