Tukimihia Simpkins #248

Don't get your hopes up.
He's a prospect but at this stage a very flawed prospect.
He has offloads in him but they are often out of self preservation after he's just been smashed, and to a player in a worse position.
He's just back from suspension and at this stage is a bit soft for the NRL.
Let's not rush players into a level they're not ready for.

If it were up to you we'd probably just forfeit every week due to not having a single player ready for first grade.

The thing with this guy is he plays with a bit of spirit, a bit of heart. He has a go.

Not to mention that talent that is obvious to most other people except you .

Have a real good look at how the 1's are actually going. They need a shake up because most of them are half way to tanking this season

Reckon there's a good chance Tuki gets on the bench this week.

We need a more agile and dynamic lock, who can offload

We don't need anything to be fair, there is no lack of talent in the team.

What we lack is EFFORT. With EFFORT comes wins. Can have an F1 car in the garage but if you dont have a licence or cant drive a manual, its pointless.

EFFORT is what we need. EFFORT. We have bucketloads of everything else.

On the contrary, our backline is the least talented in the NRL, by a long margin. Our forwards also vary in talent, probably one of the least talented packs in the comp.

Any player that doesn't put in effort should be dropped. Or fined. There is no excuse for ANY player not to apply effort.

Regardless of their current form, are you telling me this backline has no talent?

Laurie, Nofo, Mbye, BJ Leilua, Jimmy Roberts, Talau, Cini, AJ Kepoa, Adam Doehi, Luke Brooks.........

Just say again, you think this group of players have no talent? or are the least talented in the NRL? Couldn't disagree more!!!! You dont forget talent. You dont lose talent. What you do lose is desire and EFFORT.

Any one of them players, ON THEIR DAY, are as good as most in the NRL. And if you say Roberts or Leilua aren't red hot on their day, you have never watched them. And if you agree, youre agreeing with my point. The reason they seem talentless and disappointing now is because they lack EFFORT.

I havent watched the last few weeks, because I refuse. But I was at the club and happened to see BJ Leilua score from a scrum against the titans because he ran straight, and hard, and right through them from 15m out. Because he HAD A GO AND MADE AN EFFORT!

They have the talent, just lack the mental EFFORT!!!!

Nah. They're the weakest backline in the comp. You think there's a weaker lineup? Show me. Seriously.

Yes on their day they're great. But when that day comes once or twice a year it's a long time between drinks.

Laurie and Doueihi the only ones excluded

Dont think i need to. Its the EFFORT that counts. We arent getting it and it doesnt matter who they are.

But I'll eat dirt if they arent more *talented* than Dogs, eagles, warriors, knights, cowboys, sharks, titans and maybe even raiders. The difference is the EFFORT. Take Trbojevic out of the eagles and with no effort, youve seen what they cant do. The rest of them are the same, you probably couldnt name most of the backlines from those teams, but the difference is the EFFORT. Thats why they do better than us.

The highest of those teams is the Titans with Brimson, Anthony Don, Kelly, Fermor, Sami, Boyd and Fogarty. And they just acquired Esan the statue. More talented? No chance.....More EFFORT? Well i guess we just saw that first hand.

WT'S are in the enviable position of having a lot of young talent coming through whilst it would be good to get them in first grade without serving time in reggies could be detrimental to their long term futures a young Benji comes to mind and now Rorters have a young Sam Walker whilst he has been sensational he's picked up various injuries which will no doubt come against him as the season goes on due to Rorters current injuries.
We've had Simpkin come in and after two good performances is now finding it difficult and Cini found one week your up there next week you're not.
Promoting young guys has to be handled very carefully.

I think he will make an excellent 13 in a year or two.

Did you mean to say month or two? He definitely won't be waiting a couple of years to get a run. He's not far off first grade now.

No, I meant a year or two. Will it take him that long to make the run on side? No, I don't think so. But he is young and it takes time to develop. He will be excellent in a year or two, but no doubt playing NRL in a month or two.

He looked for an offload every single carry last night.
I think NSW cup for him is all about developing his motor. He already looks like a tackling machine.
Crazy to think he hasn’t even filled out yet.
Rival clubs will be keeping an eye on a fair few of our young lads 👀

I'm a big fan of guys developing their game in reserve grade. When they come to the NRL they should be close to their complete package. They shouldn't need to change anything about their game, they just need to learn to do it faster.

And is, as far as I can tell. It's not a failure of the coach or the player to be dropped after a couple of games. They come in, add value to the team with their enthusiasm, then as their enthusiasm drops from their highs, they go back to reggies and apply what they've learned.

Pretty much every top Australian cricketer got dropped and came back better than ever. Ponting even got dropped twice.

I agree. There’s a few players that should be pushing for first grade. Simpkins, Tuilagi, Amone standout to me. We should also give the kid Israel Ogden a couple of games towards the end of the season. Reece Hoffman is another who looks like he’s grown massively over the last 12 months.

I agree on Ogden and Hoffman as well.

Hoffman is coming on quietly.

Don't get too carried away ...that Norths side was barely Ron Massey Cup standard ...let alone NSW Cup standard

Both he and Tuilagi look the goods ...but it is still an almighty step up to NRL
