Tuqiri future up in the air

To be brutally honest, I wouldn't offer Lote anything for next year. The time has come for him to move on. He got a great contract out of us and we got some quality football from him for a while, although it has been a steady decline since last year and plagued with injuries, with the exception of the last couple of weeks where he is obviously playing for another contract.

If we want to win a premiership we have to make some tough decisions. At 32, we have long since seen the best from Lote. It's time to give another younger, faster, stronger and more passionate footballer a chance. We have plenty of wingers in the club.

I know I'm not the only one that holds my breathe every time Lote gets near the ball. He won't be any faster, better or less injury prone next year when he is older and has a contract sewn up again. I can't imagine how much worse he will be the year after. Please let him move on and leave us on good terms this year rather than chasing him out the door in the future with a golden handshake and another lost opportunity to bring through our juniors earlier.

I notice a lot of people think Lote has only improved due to playing for a contract. I personally believe it has been due to game time which he got hardly any of last year. at the right price, he should be given another contract.

He was great on Sunday, made some really hard yards. I would tell Lote, give me three months of the same and it is a deal. He is worth so much to the name brand of the Wests Tigers, the media love him

Sorry guys my info was a bit off. Lote is seeking 2 years 250k a season to stay he has not been offered that.

And 1/4 players have there kpi's monitored each year. It's to modify their training regime to keep them to a certain standard it's the reason fifita could never maintain a permanent spot in the team the dude had mad eating issues with dieting that caused him to fail fat roll tests on the regular

I knew about Fifita and the skin folds. Lote is a bit ambitious asking for $250k. Make it $150k and he'd have a deal I reckon.

I suppose this is why it is called negotiating

He puts a figure forward and the Tigers put their figure forward

Then the haggling and the fun begins

Thats exactly the issue..Lote needs to earn a new contract based on his 2012 form & durability, not his past reputation or media presence.
Rite now he is not in the top 2 wingers in the club(Ryan & Utai are it!),with a couple of promising young guns coming thru + possibly John Grant.
We'd need to see Lote circa 2010 to re-appear at the sort of $$ he'd be expecting,& Im not sure theres much left in the tank in what has been a magnificent career ,but mostly for others… weve paid him $1.2 mill for one good season 2 years ago,we dont owe him anything,& at 34 ish my guess is we'd all be better off if he sayonared to Japaenese Rugby

I don't believe Lote is done yet. After missing SO much football last year, at his age it was always going to take longer to get back there. In his first year he was very durable, i actually dispute the injury prone tag. I think personally a decision on his future should wait till a later date. He's built his form up week by week and he'll continue to get better yet. Finding the right balance contract wise appears the issue, not talent.

Totally agree with you Tigerpete.

I thought maybe I was looking at Lote through rose coloured glasses.

I think he is getting better week by week.

We'll only know what Sheens thinks, if and when Lote is re-signed.

It will eventually come down to how much he is willing to drop to continue to live in Balmain and work at Concord as apposed to uplifting the family and moving O/S to play rugby for heaps more. Of course thats providing he is in fact offered a contract.

Its a hard one for the club, the Lote factor is still big in the media and the sponsors, but how long can you keep a couple of young flyers down for??? I would probably tell Lote–thanks mate but no thanks

I read on another forum,Lote to Dogs on 2 year deal, make of it what you will, but geez, how are the Dogs fitting all these players in,they have Inu and soon to be Perrett mid year, any ways I won't be too disappointed if he leaves.

Lote $60 base contract + $150 3rd party top up. I'm sure there are sponsors out there that would pay him that… Do 3rd party deals count toward the salary cap?

Not to mention they signed T-Rex for next year, Mitch Brown for this year, and resigned Kasiano for the next few years.

I wouldn't mind seeing Lote have one more year, provided it wasn't for as much $$ as he is on now.

^ I don't think 3rd party payments count towards the cap.

They've got 11 players off contract at the end of this year 851, I'd say Dessie would be cutting a lot of "dead wood."

But 11 players off-contract still have to be replaced with new contracted players

Lets see T-Rex, Inu and Perrett, all who would likely be on more than the players they will eventually replace, that leaves 8 more that at the least would need to be replaced by another 8, that’s without even considering Kasiano would be on an increased contract for next year.

Find it funny with dogs fans saying they didn’t sign anyone last year, like James Graham is a nobody who must be on minimum contract, and Ben Barba resigned in 2011 on what would have to be substantially more than his first contract, but dog fans will keep saying they are still using $BW money, that one never fades away.

Doesn't look Tuqiri is going to be resigned.

Why is that?

A month ago Tuqiri said he hoped to finalise his future over the next fortnight. Nothing happened in that fortnight or the fortnight after that so it looks like the Tigers are OK with him moving on.
Would like to know at what stage Utai negotiations are at.

These things also have a habit of being drawn out also. They may look to make some decisions next week during the bye.
