Unfortunately, the current financial state of the game isn't pretty, and it seems that the ARLC had to maximise the the amount of money they could get for this deal.
In my personal position, I couldn't care less if there were no FTA games and Foxtel took them all, but I understand that not everyone has Foxtel so I can empathise with their concerns that the FTA portion of the deal.
The promising thing about this deal is that Fox and Nine both lose their first and last rights, so we should see better terms and conditions negotiated next time and the right value for the game.
This was a mere stepping stone. The game needs to squeeze as much cash out of this deal to move forward. Hopefully they set a reasonable ceiling on the salary cap so that the club grants aren't outstripped by players earnings, so all clubs can become viable. If clubs still fail to do so by the end of this deal, they should be booted.
